Straight Pipe Help!

Hey, at the moment my camaro has no muffler, its off from that part and on. i have the muffler and whatnot but since my car is old enough not to worry about emissions testing, i was told i could do whats called a "straight pipe" setup. basically replacing the muffler with a pipe that splits i guess into the 2 exhaust pipes. i was wondering if anyone has done this, also, if anyone knows of a place where these muffler replacements can be bought. if anyone know anything about this, your help is much appreciated.

Hopefully, with a complete exhaust (sort of) it will still be.

Re: Straight Pipe Help!

The only sound worse than a glasspack is no muffler at all. I guess ifyou like the hillbilly log truck sound then go for it. You'll only be perpetuating the CAMARO=******* stereotype.
But that's just my stinky opinion.

Re: Straight Pipe Help!

Well, to be honest its my friends car to its entirely up to him, but with the 84' berlinetta 305, that motor isnt very loud, and with the muffler off and the exhaust ending where you would attach the muffler, it sounds sort of like an old big block, not a tree tractor or whatever. I'll post a video but he thinks with a muffler it will be too quiet, then again hes got 4" wide stainless tips so that may compensate for it. hopefull we'll be dropping a 350 in, in which case we wouldnt even consider not using a muffler. but i was just asking around if anyone knew about this / where to get the piece just in case you know. we will leave the cat on i didnt mean that type of straight pipe, i just didnt know what else to call it, i suppose a better name for it would be a muffler delete.

Re: Straight Pipe Help!

The cat actually acts as a decent muffler. If it just to get around and not a play toy that'll be getting romped on all the time that may not be so bad.
Sorry if iI came off like an a** but a PROPERLY muffled small block is a wonderful sound. It's just a pet peave of mine. It just baffles me how some people think the coolest thing in the world is to sound like Red Neckerson coming down the road in his '63 f100 turnip truck.

Haha, that's what mine kind of sounds like right now with all the damn exhaust leaks. Good thing for me I can afford a new muffler for christmas. I wouldn't want to drive a car with no muffler, regardless of engine. The exhaust fell apart on my 1970 datsun truck and it just sounds like a souped up lawnmower.

Re: Straight Pipe Help!

Haha, yeah i went on youtube to check "exhaust delete" videos, but those cars sound like complete ****. maybe when i get the video up tomorrow or friday and my cameras sound quality is ok you'll see what i mean. the cat sort of muffles it a bit though.. properly muffled exhaust sounds great, but costs alot too and this is like a budget car. we have a flowmaster muffler, i think its a 40 series but i'm not sure. we might just bolt that on to see how it sounds but personaly, when a car is idling i hate the sound that all the belts and fans and crap make, especially when you hear it over the exhaust. we shall see. what about a loudmouth muffler?
