shorties vs. longtubes

I`m just curious if the longtubes might be a bit of overkill for my setup, especially the 1 3/4.I know almost anything would be better than these damn flowtechs I`m running now,but this time I want to get the RIGHT headers. Will a good set of 1 5/8 shorties be that much worse than a set of 1 5/8 LT`s.Also I have the d port 113 heads.I have searched alot and havent found anything but speculation and conflicting reports of what will fit these d ports right.I didnt see any dports,on heddmans website, for our cars.

Re: shorties vs. longtubes

i don't see how long tubes could be "overkill". a fellow carclub member of mine is running longtubes on a 305. i am running 1-3/4 primary shorties on my all stock L98, it's a little too much header, but my combo might "grow" into them eventually.

i don't know about the "d"ports. sorry.

Re: shorties vs. longtubes

Yeah I read the slp`s will obstruct the d ports but they are out of my price range anyhow.I`m thinking of 1 5/8 hedman lt`s with d port flange if I can find them.I read the hooker supercomps werent to bad to install anyone know about the hedman lt`s?

Hey you just did my sig pic. Thanks

Re: shorties vs. longtubes

Hedman longtubes and Hooker Super Comps both have to have the K- member notched a lil bit, with a cut-off wheel, angle grinder, etc... And on the Super Comps I had to relocate the pass side brake line out of the way. Just pulled on it a lil and it was good to go. And the driver side has to have the engine mount un-bolted and engine jacked up. Dont let any body tell you they arent too bad to install. Maybe after doing a second set they aren't too bad. Shortys are your best money though and can still drop the tranny pan without the Y pipe getting in the way.

Re: shorties vs. longtubes

I`VE thought about getting 1 3/4 shorties but I cant afford the slp ones and other than a fellow on here no one makes them. The y pipe can be made to come together behind the trans pan I would think,or maybe run true duals.$225 for the hedman d ports aint bad at all.I`ve read the slp`s dont even cover the d ports anyhow.I`m trying to find the hedman d port shorties but I havent seen them anywhere yet.I`m pretty sure the headers i`m useing are hurting me due to,well, they suck and they`re obstructing exhaust flow outa my heads.I imagine the shorties would be enough for my setup.I just figure if I`m going to take the time to replace them get the best flow I can.
Anybody wanna chime in and tell me what you think. Will the shorties be just as good?anyone know where the hedman d port shoeties are or Have a part number?
