intermidiate pipe removal

I just picked up a new car, 87 TA. car is great, except the exhaust...muffler is new but the intermidiate pipe is full of rust holes, so I cut it out...now, my 84 TA has a new intermidiate pipe on it and is getting shipped to my garage in WV so that I can start the body work and put the new engine in. so it won't be needing its exhaust any time soon....I've got it's intermidiate pipe disconnected from the cat and the muffler is off....But I can't get the pipe to go over the rear end at all...any tips short of cutting the pipe?

I dont see why you cant get it over the rear. I just through mine right over the axle without any problem at all. Are you positive you are putting it on the right way?

Re: intermidiate pipe removal

It's not trouble putting it on, I can't get it off my 84 to put on my 87. It just won't go over forward or backward. can't clear it by about 2 inches going forward, and pulling it out the back it seems like it would never fit...

Re: intermidiate pipe removal

Jack the rear of the car up and disconnect your shocks and panhard bar so that you can lower the rear end. This is what I had to do when installing my Dynomax cat back. Good luck.

I already disconnected the panhard bar to give myself a little more clearance. I'll try dropping the rear. thanks
