difference in Borla years?

What the main difference in the Borla exhaust system for the 3rd gen to the 4th gen? can a 4th gen system be used in a 3rd gen?

I know the the 4th gen has the square tips (which I like better) but other than that is the piping the from the rearend back to the tips the same?

what would have to be changed for the 4th gen system to work in my 87? I want to get a 4th gen sytem just for the tips.

thanks!

Well it will be a whole lot less time and effort to cut off the stock tips and weld the ones you want on.

BORLA TIPS

Like everyone is saying. LS1 style exhaust gets the Square tips.

...........lets see is your Camaro Square in the rear like mine.........then buy the square tips.

4th gen borla exhaust will not fit at bolt up see below

(i had to have the 4th gen exhaust custom welded to fit correctly no worrys it just a little mod)

i have a coulple pics of my car but i cant get the file size small enough

if you send me a email i can send you pics of my 1991 camaro with square borla tips out the back.

I put the 4th gen borla on my RS (I tried to anyway). Obviously the cat pipe does not line up. Also, what a lot of people don't know is the pipe with the cutout flange on it is different between generations. The 4th gen version interferes with the heat shield under the gas tank. On my particular car with the 4th gen set up on the entire exhaust was offset to the driver's side and crooked. No matter what I did, it would not line up correctly. (I changed the exhaust hangers on the body to the 4th gen version, so that wasn't the problem). I ended up getting a 3rd gen borla and had it on and lined up perfectly in an hour. I just put the 4th gen tips on it. Contrary to what people say, (at least on the borla), there is a difference other than the hangers between generations.

How do you like that 3rd gen Borla system? Size? Sound? Volume?

Zepher?..your car is a Firebird..do you think that makes a differnce in the way it lines up at the rear? I would hate to get the 4th gen system and the tips not line up correcty and look like crap..cause they would be offset and out of alignment to the tail lights....Im just picky like that..
Also, are you running wide open? cause it sounds quite compared to the systems Ive heard.

do you happen to know the part number of the system you have? that might make a difference too.

why would the guy with the RS have such I problem with his?

4th Gen Style

Hey bud once again i have some pics of my car with the square tips

most of the pics i have the rear bumper is off, shes geting body work and paint. but i know i have one with the rear bumper and all gound effects/rocker panels still on (little hard to see but it really pulls of the rear
square look of the car)

also once again there MUST be custom welding due to different catalyst bends, and the rear on exhasut hangers, also since 3rd gen rear bumpers stick out futher backwards the tips(not really the tips but acutally the pipes that the tips are already welded to from borla) have to be pulled back a bit and then welded to fit.

i can get a whole ton of pictures prob... over this weekend to show what needs to be done to fit this exhaust.

most of the work is behind the rearend.

Round tips on a square car is a huge disapointment you will not like the round tips.
Square tips are far better for our 3rd gen camaros.

i spent a ton of time figuring out which looks better. trust me.

Actually, the exhaust is really loud and it's wide open. You just can't hear and feel the sound pressure when it was recorded.
The cars should be the same as I sold my flowmaster rear section to a friend and he had it put onto his 88 RS.

I don't know the part number of the system I have as I got it used, it's just the regular Borla with the square intercooled tips and has the bypass to the pass side tip.
