My exhaust picture - 4" single Stainless Steel exhaust
As some of you might have seen I have been posting in the fabrication section of the TGO board. After some pretty extensive fabrication I was able to finally get my exhaust done. I figured that since quite a few people search here for exhaust I would start a thread and shome some of my exhaust pictures here.
I have custom built Lemons headers withe v-band clamps for flanges. I am also running 3" head pipes to a 4" single exhaust out the back. I was all built using 304 S/S u-bends and straight tubing.

That is one hell of a job with the exhaust, couple of questions though, very interesting on how the subframe was sectioned out....was the original frame sections removed and replaced? I have Ed Quays with 4 inch collectors and it is very tight in the same area, how much trouble was it to chop and fab those?
Also what starter are you using there it looks shorter than the typical nippo/denso ?
btw nice welds!

It was not that hard to cut the section out and replace it. But then hard is a relative term as I have dione extensive fabrication work in the past on other cars and racecars. I also have acess at work to a really nice brake for bending up the new sections of frame. The drivers side was a brease. Just remove the spot welds and cut very carefull and pull out that part ogf the frame and bend up a new one. The passenger side was pretty hard due to the hump in the floor for the cat and there was a lot of waisted cardboard on the floor before I started trying to put the new peice in the car. Once it is cleaned up and painted I am sure that most people who do not know 3rd gens well will think it was stock. With a little bit of time and work it actually is not that bad. When I would start to rush thing, that is when it is time for a break.
The starter was from Summit. I can't remember which one it was but I was looking for one that had the highest cranking amps. If your still interested to know whick one send me a PM and I'll be happy to look up the part number for you.
on the comment on the weld. I guess my tig welding is better then I think. It took me over 4 hours to final weld that section of the exhaust after it was all tacked together.

Might want to reconsider your brake line position
I took my steering arm out and bent them to the other side
The drivers brake line is very close to the primarys where it snakes along the K member with my headers
Dont want you to mess up such a beautiful exhaust on accounts of not bein able to stop in time

Thanks I have not even begun to deal with the brakes or fuel system yet. The lines that are there are just so the car can roll around the shop and stop.
I will be relocating the brake & fuel lines so that they are away from the exhaust. I also need to protect them from stuff being kicked up from the tires at speed. I am building this car for the Silver State Races.

what type of rear suspension do you have? I didn't see your torque arm at all or do you have the short BMR one? I like the way you sectioned out the frame. I am considering on doing that to ease up my exhaust installation.

I have home made lower control arms and panhard bar. It uses a TA but was not in the picture. The TA was not in the picture as I got tired of taking it in and out everytime I had to weld in another section of the exhaust. I have a Spohn TA for the car. I was also able to get 4" exhaust up and over the rear axle with all of the original heat sheilding for the gas tank.
Redoing the frame gave me soooooo much room for exhaust. Well worth the effort. I also added an extra bar to my SFC that I built and supported the new section of frame with them. It also adds an extra peice of tubing right under me. Being this is being built for the Silver State Races extra tubing is always a good thing!

do you have any more pic's of the subframes you built? Like side shots and one that is directly below? I am going to be cutting mine out tonight and I just wanted to see how you did yours. I can't blow up the picture on here. Could you email them to jim.frendt@wiseway.com if you have some more. Thanks

I just cut mine out last night and boy are those frame pieces worthless. I would guess they are more like transmount than structural with a sub frame connected car. You sure must have had patience, I tried like 10 times to get the angles in the converter area and decided that I am going to box the end of the frame and run a 2x3 to each seat pan and than connect them to the subframe connectors to tie it in.. I fabbed up some boxes but didn't like how they fit really more like the passenger I didn't like. Thanks for all your posted pic's.

Well got the back of the exhaust done but now I have to pull the rear end out so I can drop out the exhaust and finish weld it all. The 4" exhaust fits great and has all of the factory sheilding in place for the gas tank and also the body.
Here are a few pictures. This was made with u-bends and straight tubing.

Got the exhaust back under the car tonight. Figured out how I am going to make the tail pipes. I need to fabricate up some stainless steeel mounting brackets and polish the S/S tubing so it looks sweet.
Pictures to follow.

So I am still waiting on the copper header gaskets that Summit said i would have within the week. Now they are saying another 10 days from SCE. I would ahve just ordered them from SCE and payed the extra money.
If I knew it was going to take this long I would ahve shipped out my headers to HPC to get coated....

Sweet man. You have some very good fabrication and welding skills. Most of us could only wish we had your skills. I can weld kind of OK. Some of the welders who have seen my work say I just need practice. I just wish I had the time. Keep posting, I'm interested in seeing this one to it's finish.

That exhaust is pretty sweet, do you have some pics of the motor, and info on your motor and stuff? I've only seen 4" exhaust done on a few cars, bt dual 3" into a single 4" is bad as hell! I am just doing 2.5" duals through a h-pipe through a pair of bullet mufflers and dumps before the axle.
Once I have over 550 hp, then I'll go to bigger exhaust, 3" duals, or now that I've seen your pics, maybe I'll go with this setup, but I don't want to cut the chassis on a one of 25 made formula 350, it has 1LE options. I had PHS do a documentation on the car, and it's pretty rare. So I might go with something that's done more often, than cutting the frame. I would have done that on my Iroc-z but that cars gone now. I was going to do zoomies off the big block I was going to put in it, along with a 8-71 and dual flying toilets, I never saw one of those. But I am pretty sure I am going to get another camaro in time. Your cars sweet do you have a site with it up? Pm me

Re: My exhaust picture
The motor is a GM ZZ383 425 hours motor. It has custom made Lemons headers that are 1 3/4" primary and 3" collectors.
Once all of the bugs are worked out of the car and restomod I'll be pulling the motor to add some more power to it. The car is being built for the silver state races in NV.
The car is unique as to the fact that it is exempt from california smog. I wanted something that I could drive on the street yet still be able to have the AC on when driving on the freeway.
There are many more mods to the car. I'll send you a PM.
