Complete Exhaust replacement....guru's needed !!
Was thinking about this setup in the spring:
-Hooker Headers 2055 shorties and y-pipe 3"
-High flow single cat 3" in and 3" out
-Custom I-pipe 3"
-Flowmaster American Thunder 3" and dual 3" out.
Not going with true dual exaust or long tube headers because of clearance issues.
Just Wondering:
- if 3" would be too big for a pretty stock 305 TPI in regards to backpressure?
ANY Comments and suggestions welcome, both positive or negative....want to do this right!

Sounds good, and no it will not be too much for a 305. A member named Docholiday posted his gains with a system similar to yours on his 305 a few weeks ago. He gained about 20hp at the wheels. Just wondering why you're going with a custom 3" I pipe when there are tons out there that will bolt right up?
Personally I hate dronemasters, but if you like constant interior resonance go with the flowmasters. I prefer either the hooker or dynomax ultraflow because they're pretty quiet at cruise and idle, but open up when you get on it!

Well most cat backs come with the I pipe to begin with
-Heres the flowmaster: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
-Hooker: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
-Dynomax: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
-The cat you need for these: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...0&autoview=sku
Basically the list goes on. Check the stickies at the top of the page for more cat backs

Food for thought..
I just installed my JetHot Hooker 2055's and y Pipe... I have a high flow 3" cat, I bought a flowmaster Force II system, 3" pipe, I was told it came with a super 40 muffler, but mine came with a 30 series... anyways, the muffler is 1 in 1 out, pipe is kinda hidden... If you don't want to show off tips, go with the 1 in 1 out, flows better than the 1 in 2 out... I have a 91 TPI 305, I got my Flowmaster catback & muffler for $249 from summit... I'm going to a muffler shop in a few weeks to get subframe connectors welded in and the exhaust put on...
Another thing, I was gonna have the muffler shop custom make all the pipes, which they can do, but they use crush bending, not mandredl bends... which flow better... the flowmaster system used all mandrel bends...

If you're going with the American Thunder muffler, you might as well get the whole system. Better pipes, costs less than a shop will charge you to custom fab something.
Back pressure is not a good thing. However, the increased efficiency of the exhaust may skew your SD parameters. No biggie, get the PROM tuned to compensate - make even more power, get even better economy.

Yes was looking at the american thunder cat back...would be cheaper to go that way!
-Hooker 2055 and y pipe 3"
-Catco direct-fit catalytic converter 3" in and out
-American Thunder Cat back 3"
-www.pcmforless.com for a new chip
Sound good? Should all fit together eh? -my Canadian coming out
Open for all suggestions to improve this setup!

Because I'm impressed with its performance and sound and because it's a direct fit system (three-inch mandrel bent from the collectors back), I've thrown this system around a few times:
Hooker 2055's (Jeg's 520-2055). Catco high-flow converter (Summit CTO-9118). Hooker catback (Summit HOK-16823HKR).

James, always look forward to your responses! Never ever heard a Hooker catback system, how would you compare it the the thunder?
I was looking for one of those "look at me" exhausts.

Well that's good info James. I will have to search the net for a soundclip. The flowmaster is starting to get a bad rep for constant interior resonance in the operating range and cruising speed. Being very close to old fart status myself at 38, I fully understand the logic

I purchased the Hooker system because at idle and under normal driving conditions, it's relatively quiet (hey, I'm an old fart and I like to hear my passengers and listen to music). At WOT, however, the system has a nasty snarl that gets "attention" and makes me grin like a court jester.

I have stock manifolds hi flo cat with the american thunder cat back and it is not as loud as most people say. With the windows up and the a/c on you cant even hear it until about 3500rpm but with the windows down its not that bad. This set up is just not loud enough for me. Im going l/ts with duals and dynomax bullets that set up should have the look at me affect and will be cheaper than the set up you want. just a thought

Do you like super loud, constant interior resonance, crackling like a fresh log on the fire with 12 gage shells mixed in for fun?
If so, you'll love Bullets!!!
(Ask me how I know. . .)

ANY Comments and suggestions welcome, both positive or negative....want to do this right!

in regards to sound, most people tell me my car is "loud but not too loud" and that it sounds nice. i had a friend get out and drive the car, and i thought it sounded quite nice.
good luck with it though man!
how do you like the 3.73's?

Dan..how are ya? The 3.73 are awesome..installed them to late in summer was the only problem. It was like having a new car.
I think I will go with the above setup. Got quoted a price from http://ultimateperformancecar.ca/ for $1200 CDN including tax for the setup, or about $1000 U.S. including tax. Best part of that is there is no duty/customs/brokeage fees, and his prices are pretty close to Summits, so at the end of the day he is actually cheaper then Summit for Canadians.
You car still looks awesome

Yes, they are that loud. Basically a piece of perforated pipe with a slightly larger pipe for a body around it.
Rather than give you a fish and tell you how much they cost, here's a fishing lesson: www.summitracing.com

Did anyone mention Bullets are not street legal mufflers???
