longtubes, X pipe and borla exhaust? anyone done it?

I want to run an X-pipe with my longtubes cause I hear thats the best for power....can that be made to work with a borla exhaust seeing the borla is a single pipe setup? has anyone done this?

An xpipe design will have 2 exit pipes. The Borla cat back is a single pipe like you said, how do you plan on getting this to work? Also, Im not sure how you drive your car or if it is lowered but putting an Xpipe setup under your car AND runing 2 pipes over the axle will be difficult. Is this something you are trying to fab up from scratch?

yeah its lowered but not that much...maybe an inch. I just like the sound of a borla exhaust...I heard an LT1 383 with a y-pipe and it sounded badass!

and then again I heard that x-pipe is the way to go.....

so with what you said, what do you reccomend?

just a y-pipe? Im putting longtubes on and dont want to use the flowmaster that I have.

also let me ask you, is the sound of the borla all in the tips? cause I also what to use the polished Z-28 tips that I currently have.

I guess Im wanting something that cant be done..

Im going to have a good exhaust shop do it all....and also use oval piping from drgas.com

what would you say I do?

Id say scrap the ideas of adding an xpipe and just buy or make a good ypipe that ends up in the same location as the single catback pipe does. That way there you can always buy any 3rd or 4th gen catback exhaust and install it with minimal issues. I made my own 3" ypipe for my longtubes and used a Flowmaster y collector to join the 2 sides. I welded a 3 bolt flange ring to the exit side of the collector and its real easy to swap catbacks on my car now. There is no need other then the sound to run an xpipe or true duals on a mild or stock car.

Oh and yes, I think some of the distint Borla sound comes from their intercooled tips but their sound is al in how their over the axle pipe is setup. I used to have a Borla catback on my 97WS6TA and I loved it. Id buy another but not for the price anymore.

hmm? whats the performance difference in an X vs a Y or even an H?
oh and my car will be far from stock or mild.

does your car now the way you have it compare to the sound of the Borla when you had it?

There are way to many varialbes out there to answer your comparision question easily. What might benifiet one person may be a total waste of time and money to someone else. I think you safely run a single 3-4" single exhaust on a 400hp engine. I cant compare my personal exhaust on my car yet since I havent fired it up since I put long tube headers in and made my own custom 3" ypipe. On Sunday, I am installing my Hooker muffler and hopefully I will see how she sounds. PLus my Borla was on a 4th gen that didnt have headers and has 2 cats.

an x-pipe pretty much serves the same purpose as a y pipe does, except the x has 2 exits for dual exhaust while the y has a single exit for single exhaust exit.
