pics of my custom long tube T56 crossmember

Here are some pics of my custom made crossmember I fabbed up to get more ground clearance for my long tube headers and ypipe. I made this to work with my Spohn torque arm which uses a sperical rod end and rotator plates as a mount. I had to made shorter rotator plates since the new mount is postioned higher up in the tunnel. I used 1"x3" steel for the construction and 2x2 steel for the mounting arms. I will post a few pics here to start with. I am trying to create an album to host the rest so please bear with me. Here goes, I hope this works...

So how much did the steel cost? Did you just get a long piece and cut each section, tack it, then weld it? Looks awesome, I'd love to do something like that to help with my lack of ground clearance.

the steel cost me about $35. I bought one long section and made all the angles seperate. I started with a wooden templete first and once I was happy with how it loks I transferred the measurments to the steel and tacked them all in place. I had spohn send me two new rotator plates and a new chunk of steel tubing. I didnt want to hack it off my (stock spohn) crossmember in case I wanted to go back to that one. The rotator plates ended up being too long and i had to make shorter ones by hand. I mocked it all up and everything fit perfect so I then welded it all up and and rechecked it. Once it was done, I had Chris(TPi383) powdercoat it. Im still working on getting the other 10-15 pics I have of it uploaded to a photobucket album so I can post it here. I have more pics of it WITH my dual 3" y pipe installed.

very cool! looks solid.

Can you explain the funny mount at the front of the TA? A rotator mount? Not quite sure why that's needed?

the rotator mount is the same style mount the Spohn uses on some of his torque arms. I called Steve on this method and he said everyting should work fine as long as thereis no binding going on. The rotator and sperical rod bearing allow just enough movement of the toque arm so it doesnt bind.this is the torque arm I once had in there. I ditched the crossmember and used the rest

I dont think there is a lot of people runnning LTs and a 700r4 trasnsmission. maybe the guys that are running LTs are sticking with a manual trans or a like a T350 or something and there car is strickly setup for racing. Im sure it can be done though. Anything is possible.
