Header flange porting dilema!!!!

Header flange porting dilema!!!!
I am in the process of porting my Hooker 2210 head flanges to match the Fel Pro 1404 gaskets since they (the gaskets) are roughly 1/8" bigger all around than the exhaust ports in my AFR 195's.My dilema is the Hooker 2210 ports are taller than both,probably 1/4" or so.
Do I weld up the top and bottom of each port in the head flanges on the 2210's and then port them to match the FP 1404 gaskets or trim the gasket to match the taller port Hooker flanges?
