Anyone using a Y-pipe straight to the catback?

I have a small hole in my Y right in front of the cat, tried that stupid putty, didn't seem to work, instead of getting it welded,($80) I'm thinking of putting a 2.5 inch Y-pipe, straight to the cat back. I have stock manifolds right now, but am eventually going to put headers on once I drop a crate motor in. Car is very quiet even quieter with a Hooker Aerochamber, and want some more sound.
1. Is there a Y that would be compatible with both my manifolds and SLP or Hooker headers?
2.My cats have 96k on them,should I still get a Y straight to them?
3.Should I just pay to fix the hole now, then get the headers with the Y later? Input greatly appreciated

You could just put in a merged y-pipe with stock manifolds. Not sure where you're gonna find a merged y-pipe seperate, except used.

Then, you'd stsill hata buy shorty headers later, definately not SLPs(long tubes only), to fit that y-pipe. Unless you wanna do some serious mods to the y-pipe, to fit long tube headers.

Find a friend with a welder to do it for you.

In my local 3rd gen club, there are several guys with welders (I'm one), and we commonly do welding for free, just to help each other out. Exhaust, SFCs...you name it!

Oh...Thought they only made long tubes.

How about something to plug it...like JB Weld, and header wrap?

Fairly quick fix. I kinda figure, if the pipe is ground enough, the JB should stick by itself though. "Should", is the key word!

well I put another coat of goop on last night, it seems to have sealed it, although who know's for how long. The leak is a nickel size, on the very top of the pipe so the whole exhaust has to be removed to get at it to weld. I still want to get a Y straight to the cats, to free up some power and sound, the guy who put my Aerochamber on said he could put 2 2 1/4 pipes straight to it, but I want atleast 2 1/2.(he didn't have that) What I'm trying to figure out is whether this Y will fit both my manifolds now, and SLP's later when I get them, or is there a 2.5 Y that I can put on now to the cats, and also fit headers?

Problem is, with your apparently home made SFCs, nobody can tell you what will, and what won't fit, without physically looking and measuring.

Good luck!

Going to get it done probably tomorrow, except he's just going to put 2 2 1/4 pipes from the middle of the Y where there is no leak, straight to the catback for about $100. Can't wait for the xtra sound and power!
