cut out, best place?

i want to put cut outs in my exhaust when i put my 383 in and i wanted to go with electric. The system i want to go with is hedman longtubes that Y into a single 4in. into a cross flow hooker aero chamber.(basically zz17iroc's setup with a hooker muffler). my question is should i put one cutout at the collector of each long tube or could i just put one in the 4" intermediate pipe.

- can i get a hooker aero chamber thats 4"in and dual 3" out?

If you have longtubes, put the cutouts right on the collectors.

i SERIOUSLY doubt you'll see much gain, if any at all, with longtubes and a properly built y-pipe with 4" exhaust. the cutouts are gonna be a waste of money, plain and simple...it'll be loud enough anyhow.

i do not believe that hooker offers any muffler in a 4" version.

The car isn't lowered, and its just a bad pic. Its actually got very good ground clearance... better than the factory exhaust system did.

I would put 1 behind each header collector.

if you're going to run electric cutouts, i would reccomend one cutout in the intermediate pipe.

if you're going to use normal, plate/nut covers on the cutouts, then you can go for the dual cutouts if you want to.

i have dual electric cutouts, and really, its better to just have one motor/butterfly to worry about.
locally, theres 7 guys (including me) that have E-cutouts... i would only get the McCord or the QTP ones..

if you do end up trying dual E cutouts, put the cutouts far back as possible to keep them from the heat. while the acutal cutout isnt damaged, the copper RTV that makes the final seal will dissappear otherwise... and you'll have a tiny, annoying exhaust leak when closed.

Why not use a gasket, like what a normal cutout is supplied with for the cap? Its baically just a header collector gasket. I use the fibre-type on my cap, and take it off all the time at the track and have yet to have a leak.

im refering to the seal that lets the butterfly actually seal agienst the "bore" of the electric cutout.

unless you put some high temp RTV there, you will never have it seal perfectly... some are tight enough that the exhaust leak never bugs the owner... but it annoys me and others..

McCord does this when they sell it.. im not sure if QTP does, but if they dont, it needs to be done...

yes, you can attach it to the cutout with a normal collector gasket.

Ahh, ok... I thought you were talking about something else. I stand corrected.
