Difference Between H.O. and non-H.O. Hooker Catbacks
There are at least 2 Hooker catback systems for our cars (another one for carbed cars which I'm not including here ). Does it make a difference for fit? I have a slightly modded LO3 which will get some more mods. Wondering if the TPI Hooker catback will fit too, or what the difference is. In the pictures on Summit's site, the mufflers look different, flat for the non H.O., diamond shaped for the H.O. When people say, "the Hooker catback sounds great" which are they referring to? Also wondering if these systems feature the Aerochamber muffler. Have heard Hooker soundclips, sound awesome. Had a Flowmaster, thinking of switching up.
HOK-16820HKR, for non H.O. 305's (vin E etc.) TBI cars 279.95
HOK-16823HKR for TPI cars 269.95
I also like the quad tips on the Hooker system. I'm just hoping it will be LOUD enough on my car. Also considering the American Thunder system. Right now I have Ghetto Thunder--straight pipe out the cat with a turndown. Sounds pretty good but I can't show up at a thirdgen cruise with that setup.
Which Hooker system to get?

Don't trust summitracing.com pictures. They get about half of them wrong (and you never know which half you're looking at).
The TPI system will fit the car, but it won't fit your exhaust. However, it's the right way to go, just modify the exhaust before it to fit the new cat-back.

The one I got was for an '83-85 HO (L69)... it had a 4-bolt cat flange, which I think is the difference.

Thanks, that pretty much answers my question. Planning to get a new 3" in/out cat anyway, and possibly headers at the same time, so some refitting will be required anyway. Looks like Magnaflow is the only cat that is 3" for our cars. Thanks again!
P.S. Couldn't believe the difference it made, going from my non-mandrel bent exhaust system, where the bends were probably not even two inches in places, to a straight pipe--the whole car now rumbles and there is definitely more power, a steady whoosh through the K&N all through the rev range. I haven't even been listening to the radio, just listening to V8 music. Call me a freak, but I'd rather hear a motor than not hear it.

The difference between the 2 systems is the diameter of the i-pipe where it goes into the cat.
