direct fit headers, worth it or not
I realy want to put headers on my camaro, but dont want to change too much. I was wondering if there are any headers that fit to the original y pipe. I dont feal like modifying my entire exhaust to put some headers in. Right now I have 3in all the way through with a 80 series flowmaster and no cat.

Also, original y-pipe is 2.25"
which is terribly small.

I dont understand what you mean by that first comment. anyway, my y pipe must be different from stock, it is a 3in y pipe. But it appears to be stock.

Go look at your Ypipe, is it crush bent? If so, it's the stocker. If I were you, i'd get a set of hooker 2055's. Great headers, and a good y pipe. It would be foolish to have headers, and a aftermarket catback with a stock y pipe.

even if you COULD use headers and stock Y, you would get no performance benefit. Now instead of the manifolds being the bottleneck, the y pipe is.

my y pipe sure looks like the larger of the two that you have in the shot. I measured it and it is a 3in and is mandrel bent. But it fits my stock headers, so I would probably have to change my y pipe anyway to fit new headers.
NastyL98_T/A-I see what you mean about the bottleneck, it does not make sense to just do one and not the other.

If your current y-pipe is indeed 3" than it should be easy to slip on the 3" y-pipe that certain kits come with. I would look at the hooker 2055's, SLP's or Mac's. There aren;t any headers out there that will mate up to the stock style collectors. You will spend less in the end if you just get a kit that comes with a new y-pipe.
