I heard people complaining about hot gases where they shouldn't be, but I'd be more concerned about volume levels.

Make sure you don't melt any wires, that includes 02, car audio, aftermarket gauge wires, etc.... I once got mine a little toasty using shorties. If you limit yourself to idling around cops you could probably get away with it. Course once you start to step into the gas everyone around is going to hear you.

Not really worth the risk of a ticket in my book. Not to mention they could probably fine you for not having CATs once they start looking around.

Open headers, or open Y-pipe? I drove around with an open Y-pipe for a few days, and other than the noise I had no problems.

My shorties would shoot flames without the Y-pipe though... I wouldn't recommend trying that.

$100 or so for modified exhaust (a moving violation), and a $1500 fine for lack of a cat.

i think its more of a location type law......in louisiana i've seen 4 cylinder trucks sound like it has a V-8 w/open headers pass by a police officer and didnt even stop him.....and most cops ride around with their window's up anyways .....BUT here in houston i still ride with semi open headers...(need to finish they 3 in. to the flowmaster) and still they dont even pull me over
