Catalytic Converter Clogged-Replace or Remove?

Greetings!
Need some advice about this catalytic converter issue. It's the original off of an 89 RS 2.8L V6 150,000 miles. I noticed a serious bogging in the motor that was unlike anything I had ever experienced. After a couple trips around town with this power loss happening on and off, It got bad enough that I was limping up the hill when smoke began to pour into the car from under my steering wheel. Turns out it was exhaust but hey, smoke looks like smoke! Just a tip for all you gearheads: Have SOME kind of fire extinguisher in your car for this is a bad feeling when smoke is pouring out of your camaro that you work so hard on! Luckily there was no fire, but the rubber elbow from the exhaust manifold that connects to the A.I.R system was completely melted. I was stuck. I ran to NAPA and got a replacement hose to limp it back home but it too melted. I checked my factory service manual and it said to check the pressure at that valve and if it was excessive, then replace catalytic converter. I haven't tested it, but seeing how it blew two hoses, I'd say that the pressure is excessive!

My question to all of you is: Should I replace or just remove the catalytic converter?

There is no emmisions testing down here, but if I remove it, then what do I do about the A.I.R. tube that was also attached to it?

It is up to you. Your car will probably be a little louder with no cat. You can just leave the air tube; it will not do any harm. Regardless if there is emission testing or not, it is illegal to drive without a cat I believe, just letting you know.

I threw a cat on mine because my exhaust was too loud, however I was running a straight pipe in its place for about a year. I'm just a fan of the environment too

Well, I guess I'll try one of those universal high-flow cats. I don't want to sound like one of those stupid ****-rockets that sound like a ripping fart as they cruise up and down the parkway. Thanks for the tips!

If you have enough cash go for the high flow

Do know that if you cut off the cat you will be drenched in the exhaust stinch whenever you drive it

I had my 305 straight piped from when I bought it
and it sounded like a dump truck

I put a stock cat and a FM 80 series
I got a girl and didnt want her smelling bad so hey

Replace the cat. It will prevent any droning, buzzing, and other annoying sounds associated with cat-less exhausts. It also helps the environment and keeps you legal.
