? for shifty on flotech headers
shifty im thinking about headers but dont have much money, i know you have flotechs on your car. Are they even worth it or should i save some more money and get some hedmans or hookers. Also i dont know how to do the chip tuning will brian with tbichips be able to give me some decent to run with the headers, or should i not even bother with a chip just yet.

OK, I know im no shifty but I read a ton on headers before I bought mine and the exhaust board has a wealth of info on this. They've also got a nice sticky that explains all the different types of headers available for our cars. The common consensus over there is that you get what you pay for. Although I've never used anything besides my 2055's, I'd assume there is a reason that the hookers cost $300+ and the flowtechs cost $80. save your money. But anything is better than stock.

i know this should be in the exhaust forum, but since shifty is a mod here and its directed towards him, thats the only reason i posted here. But i plan on running the flotechs with a cut out where my cat would be, hoping for max flow, any ideas good or bad

It will definitly flow infinatly better than stock. if you're hard up for money, headers are headers, and anything will help. You could always switch them out later for better ones. I've heard that the summit brand headers are the same exact things as the flowtechs, and they're a little cheaper. I've also heard very good things about cut outs. those electric ones are pretty expencive though arent they? I think you'd be happier saving the money from the electronic cut out and getting some better headers.

i was just gonna go with a cheap ol 35 dollar cut out from the shop here, its got screws u can adjust to limit flow, id like an electronic one but cant afford that let alone a nice set of headers

from what ive read the Blowtechs dont fit near as well as say Hookers or hedmans, or SLP's. Hedmans are a little more then the flowtechs and have better feedback on the boards plus they sport the 3" collector unlike the flowtechs which are limited to the 2 1/2" collector- If you wanted to in thefuture change the exhaust pipe diameter to 3" from the headers back & you had the flowtechs youd be chokin it from the headers, though some would say it doesnt make that much of a difference. I almost bought flowtechs but after reading some threads on this board and another i saved my money for a few more weeks and went down to Lopers Performance and bought non-emission short hedman headers for $120 #68470. if you have to have the A.I.R. tubes thatll cost extra, in my case it wouuld have cost me and extra $150
You dont have to buy the most Expensive headers out there but for $80 your not getting much, save your $ for awhile longer and get something that has more positive feedback. dont get me wrong flowtechs have some high ratings....on 4thgens.
personnally id wait on the cutout you can add one of those later.

Save your money and do headers right the first time. If these headers came with a better y-pipe they would be ideal for a 305 modded or in stock form. The 1.5 primaries are small when used on high hp and larger displacment combos, but for a 305 they are ok and you will not really max them out. I hate them because of the quality. The flange was warped and collectors are to thin and are bent. The y-pipe is just plain garbage. You really get what you pay for when it comes to headers and there is a reason why these are only 100 bucks.

I say if you're looking for something cheap and you're not planning on putting in a 350 and modding it up a bit, they're ok. Granted the y-pipe blows big time.... it was smaller (2.5") after the two 'joined', than my stock one (3"). That and the passenger side pipe goes straight down into the the other one... crappy, but hey, it is mandrel. They are fairly easy to work with, too, being 1.5" and 2.5" collectors. I would only get them if I found a deal with the y-pipe for under $100. Now that I look at the Hedman 68470, though, it looks like a good deal at $215 with y-pipe. That would eliminate the extra work if you ever decide to upgrade. I changed my mind.... just get those and save yourself the headache of 'how to fix the crappy Flowtech y-pipe issue.' Nevermind, my reply is useless... now I see that one goes into 2.5" before the cat, too. If you want to fix that y-pipe into a 3", you'll end up spending as much as a set of Hooker 2055s just trying to make them as good as the 2055s.
