Routing around Smog Pump

I badly need a new serpintine belt before mine goes while I'm driving. I was looking at the Tech articles and found the article on routing the belt so that it would work without the smog pump. Could I buy a new belt the right size that the article says to and put it in, leaving the smog pump in place with everything hooked up. I'm getting new headers in June off my buddy and they don't have air tubes. Would it be ok to leave the pump on and not working till then but replace the belt now?

I do not think you can re-route it. It is right in the way and stick outs even with the pulley off. I would just leave it be until you can remove everything. Hopefully your belt will last that long.

Will I get a code if I remove the smog pump. I've searched the forum but gotten conflicted information. Anyone know?

I would rip it out now and cap your main AIT tubes on your exhaust manifolds. Do not leave them open or you will have a serious exhuast leak

That one I cannot help you with. Some poeple take off the tubes right off the manifolds with 1/4" brass plugs. I am not sure how to plug the main line. It is non threaded so you cannot really screw anything on.

Wait I am an idiot. You can screw a plug onto the end. You have to unscrew the main parts there where the hose connects. What I mentioned earlier is if you just take off the hoses and leave that thread part on there. I would start soaking them now because at first mine would not budge so I just took the hoses off. And since I went with headers I did not need to plug them.
