made my own cutout and turndown
I had my y-pipe off because I was making some 1/2" thick flanges for the collectors. while I had it down I decided to go ahead and put a cut-out in. My brother had a 3" that he wasn't using that I was going to use at first, but sinceI have a 2-1/2" y-pipe it was going to take too much spacing to get it to fit right.
I ended up getting some pipe from Autozone and making my own. Turned out to be about 8" long, the cut-out part is about 4" long and I used some 1/4" plate for a flange on the end. I have another 1/4" plate that I use to cap it. I also got a 2-1/2" turn down from Autozone, cut it down to size, and welded it to another 1/4" plate that I can bolt on when I want to uncap it. It actually sounds better with the turn down than it did before when I would unbolt the exhaust behind the cat body. I can take some photos if anyone is interested.

Seems interesting....could you post some pictures maybe? It sounds a little time consuming, but was it worth it? Also what do you do when your exhaust is burning hot, and you want to uncap it... I personally like the idea of flipping a switch inside the car but that's my opinion. Considering your cutout is next to nothing in cost VS. mccord cut out - I would think if a person is capible of it, it would be worth the trouble involved. I'd like to hear both sides of the arguement before I choose which way I would like to go....
So....... Electric cutout VS. standard cutout people in a FACE-OFF!

It probably took about 2 hours to make, so it wasn't too bad in that department. Right now I've just got some 3/8 bolts that hold the plate on. Ultimately I'll get an electric cutout plate to bolt onto this so that I can do it on the fly. For now though, thats what Mechanix gloves are for
