Insulation for spark plug wires because of headers ?
I just finished intalling long tube hedman headers that are wrapped with insulating header wrap. I was wondering if you can buy insulation for your spark wires and boots because my wires are pretty close to the tubes, and one of them melted onto the headers (luckly I dont have the new wires in yet).
I also need insulation for my remote start solenoid wires.
Any help would be appreciated.
thanks

you shouldn't have the wires that close to the headers....in any event they do make certain things that i've seen on the internet but unfortunately i can't remember. i'm sure someone here will know.

yeah, I know that they shouldnt be touching, but I am worried about heat soak. Even the part of the wire that was farther away seemed pretty hot to me.

Check out this link to the summit online catalog, they have plenty of products to overcome your current problem. Or just search for "Spark plug boot heat shield". Good luck.

Summit and Jeg's have a wide supply of items that would solve your problem, however it will be a bit costly. I would reccomend instead you get some wire looms (or make them yourself) to hold the wires away from the headers. My car doesn't have anything protecting the plug boots, just well placed wire looms and I haven't had any damaged so far.

the number 7 plug on my engine is so tight....that i have to grind some of the plug electrode off in order to get the boot in far enough....then shave some of the boot....so there is about an 1/8 of an inch of clearance or so.
it wont melt, but after a year or so it will get brittle from the heat and crack......i use the moroso race wires......the boots are really, really tough.....as long as its not touching it shouldnt melt.
