heard a hooker system on an LT1 Z28 yesterday, just a few questions...
Met a guy at the track yesterday who has a 96 Z28 1LE with pretty much all the bolt ons, including a hooker exhaust system. Upon hearing this I became excited, cause i've heard good things about the system and heard it sounds good, but have never heard one in person knowing exactly what it is....unfortunatly the only time i could hear the car was when he was leaving because they called off the race due to rain, and with all the other cars running open headers and stuff, i couldnt clearly hear his car. I did hear a little bit of it when he was kinda inching forward to get into the long line of people waiting to leave, and it sounded pretty good, but i couldnt hear it at all durring idle!
Is the hooker system loud at idle? like loud enough to turn a few heads or is it more quiet at idle? How loud would it be on an LS1 with a nice big cam, LS6 intake, some nice heads.....long tube hooker headers, no cat.?

Car: 1992 Firebird
Engine: forged 357
Transmission: 700r4, 2200-2400 stall, vette servo
Axle/Gears: stock pegleg 2.73 drum (temp)
I have Hooker 2055s and the Hooker Aerochamber catback.
The car is remarkably quiet under 1000 rpm, comparitavely to stock.
But the idle tone is very deep and you can hear the pulses (moreso with headers).
When you mash out, the car is very loud, and sounds unlike a 305 TBI!
I often cruise through areas where ricers hang out at around 2800 rpm and it gives them a scare.
The exhaust makes no farting noises either, a full 3" all the way back without a cat.
I had the aerochamber bolted to the stock ypipe and cat (leaked slightly) and it sounded really nice.
But I'd never go back to those crappy manifolds ever again!!!

That's cool.. I've also been looking into which exhaust combo to get for my 91 Z28 L98.. I don't want to have to shout in order to have a conversation with someone sitting shotgun.
To me, the Borla #14888 seems to be the quietest inside the car with a great tone outside. The thing is... it's hard to justify spending more than 2X what some of the others are going for.. that give the same or better performance ..
What are some other experiences? I'd like to get some feedback..
Thanks,
Chris
