White Smoke???
My friend has a 1986 iroc 305 tpi, and when he starts it up white smoke comes out of the tailpipes, its not blue at all. What could be causing this to happen??

Possible blown head gasket. Does it continue to smoke, even if not a lot? White smoke usually means water is in the combustion chamber. Another thing is how cold is it outside when he starts it? Could just be condensation.

Sounds like a blown head gasket. Check his oil does it look milky or muddy? Is his car consuming coolant?

Oil burns blue though not pure white. Plus the white smoke he said continues to come out even after start up.

doesnt oil burn 2 different colors, depending on whether it came in contact with the actual flame, or just a hot part?
im not sure if its white, its been a while, then blue as the other
i learned about this with turbos--its a way of finding out where the oil leak is coming from

No, it's coolant not oil! Soon enough there will be more white smoke and the eng. temp. will go right up to 250+ after running for only 5 minutes. Then you'll know for sure that the head is either coming off or you'll risk cracking it in two, not to mention the possibility of ruining other engine parts.

its a blown head gasket, u may want to stop running untill u get that fixed before u crack a head.. i made that mistake and it was very expensive, but gave me a reason to build a brand new motor

I have the same problem...a lot of white smoke comes out when I crank it (everytime) and a little comes out when I give it gas, but my oil is not milky, and it doesn't burn any oil either.....could I have a Blown head gasket? Or is my valve seals leaking?

Yeah wj\hile we are on the topic, Sometimes if I give my car gas as i am starting it white smoke will come out, But that is the only time. It is also if it has been sitting( while im at work or over night). There is no water in my oil, engine is relatively new and the heads were checked. Is it just condensation??
