Manifold Bolt Fell into headers?? Help
I took my 89 firebird to the shop the other day to get my exhaust fixed, i dont exactly know a lot about cars but i have close friends who do... but none know how to do this... the guy at the shop told me that my car has lost a lot of power due to a bolt that broke off and fell into the headers. He said its easily fixed, but he didnt tell me how to do it.. could someone tell me how to get the bolt out of my headers and how to restore the lost power.

not sure if this would work but you could give it a rip. put a pressure washer in the end of it and blast it out the way it fell in, force it back out where it came from.

How would a bolt break off and fall into the headers with the headers on? Where did the bolt come from?

if there really is a bolt in there, just leave it. It wont do any harm. I had a transmission bell housing bolt in the passenger side of te y-pipe for the longest time.

I'm not 100% sure here, but it sounds as though this shop is trying to take you for a ride. I am still trying to figure out how the bolt got in the header, mind you it would go right down to your cat. Loss of power?? Not from a bolt falling into your header anyway. How did this shop come to find this bolt in the header also?? If they seen it in there, they could have taken it out. Unless they are hearing a rattleing around the cat, Then it is most likely that the Cat is shot and plugged up , hence loss of power, and a rattleing noise too.
We need more info as to how the shop came to this conclusion?? Were they working on it and it fell in there then? If so they are responsable to remove it. No bolts are anywhere that they can just fall into the header if they where not off.
