Dual Cat Setup pic......

Heres a pic of the dual cat setup that was on my car originally. The only difference is the cats are Catco high flow. Notice the Y collector after the cats....dont you think the Flowmaster would work much better? the one cat runs dead into the Ipipe instead of a nice gradual bend........Just thought some people were curious how the dual cat setup looked.....sorry for the b&w....

I would probably say it's the same, but I'm not sure. Only reason I say this is becuase it would be cheaper to have the same part for all cars. But with GM, I've been surprised before.

Eric, SURPRISE!!!!

The single cat heat shield is a two-piece part which swivels around a common point. I can't recall if it swivels around a bolt, a rivet of sorts, etc. The dual cat heat shield is MUCH larger and was discontinued by GM years ago.

What would be the easiest way for us single-cat guys to go dual? Get an aftermarket y-pipe for the dual cat setup?
Is there any difference in the floorpan for single cat/dual cat cars?

Ever have any problems with the pipe hitting the driveshaft?

Also, I see a good opportunity for true duals here - run one pipe down the outside, right under the rocker panel. Might have to work a bit getting it back in, and over the axle, but it ought to keep the pipes tucked up for most of the distance.

Yes. Then use a pair of aftermarket cats and a Flowmaster "Y" that's sold by Summit and Jegs.

No difference.

Nope.

I guess you haven't seen my setup. Go back up to my first reply and click on "SC Z!!!", then on Exhaust.

Wow, that's a slick-looking exhaust! Couldn't really tell, but it doesn't look like you've lost any ground clearance there?

None at all. I love the way my exhaust turned out, but I have one complaint. I've been driving with this exhaust for about four months now and it's "kind of" on the loud side.... It puts my former Flowmaster to shame....

Thanks for the original shot since the idiot at Engineered Performance in Smyrna, GA. f---ed up my system when he installed my Random Technology Cats I have been looking for a pic to see how GM had the original exhaust hangers. EPs idiot did away with the original one at the tranny and it hasn't been the same since

I know this might be a silly question...but would this subject(pic) be worth making a sticky??? One more thing about the dual cat setup.....its major drawback is how the pipes are run before the cats....where the two pipes come around and straighten out, they are smashed together so they fit nice and neat....that has to affect flow...but you know how GM is/was.

Willie, I totally dig your set up. It's absolutely amazing and I'd love to do it. But I can only imagine how much it cost. I was quoted $400 for a complete dual exhaust with high-flow cats & flowmaster 40's.

Willie...that setup is really nice. I have a question though? How did they get the two 2 1/2" pipes into that crossover(3.5) pipe? Did the SLP headers come with the pipes to the converter? And finally, do you think the Dynomax bullet mufflers would fit where you have the 69 Z mufflers??? I might give this a go around and see what happens.....Love the ground clearance:hail:
