Flex pipe install (GREAT!)
Here's my latest addition I did today at work (I work right now as a service advisor at Midas)... After too many header gaskets and cracks developing in my y-pipe I decided to make a change to where I had a straight pipe in place of my catalytic converter.. This would be a great mod for those of you with rigid exhaust (which many of our cars suffer from).. This flex section (Midas part number 2E10549) is right where the cat used to be, and I welded a flange/gasket attachment on the rear (leading towards the rear axle and then to the muffler) so the entire y-pipe can now be removed (to service my starter motor if necessary).... It works great, the motor can now torque freely and there is less stress throughout the system... Just thought I'd put it out there for anybody looking for ideas!!

btw, the clamp is holding the hanger that attaches to the extension housing of the transmission...

The flex section pictured is maybe 12" long... They don't make ones much longer than that (you don't really need much longer than that either)...

I've had mine installed for about 1/2 year now. I had the shop put one in right behind the cats on the cat back system. I kept breaking donut gaskets on my tes headers due to the stress of the car launching... could be from the spohn sfc and lcas with the 9.5 inch 2400 stall.... I haven't blow out another gasket yet.

probably not as bad of leaks as missing gaskets from the flexing of the system. I had a shop build my pipe and I've got pretty much these same problems. I think I'm going to need to put some of this stuff in. I'm planning on building my whole exhaust system from scratch though. Hope I have the skills to do it.

No leaks...
There are no leaks in this style of flex pipe... Infact many oem's use this type of flex pipe from the factory (mostly 1mports).. We had it on the lift, checked for leaks, no leaks!!

BADGTA...if your going to run duals just use the s extentions. They hang kinda low but it will most definetly not be the lowest section of your exhaust. The mufflers are MUCH lower. I never hit the s extentions or my pipe for that matter. I did however have a muffler and the pipe ripped off the other night. I went up a small hill at 25mph and my flowmaster caught on a manhole cover.
My advice for life: Screw dual exhaust on a 3rd gen. Its ridiculous. Its low, scrapes, and you can take your friends anywhere in it...or fat chicks (for those who enjoy that kinda thing).
My advice: Get a good set of shorty headers with y pipe (edelbrock TES, hooker 2055s, SLP ect.) and a good catback and be done with it. Then enjoy the ground clearance.
