Stock bent down tail pipe vs. straight tail pipe

A few days ago I went in the muffler shop to get my Intermediate pipe (joins cats and muffler)
replaced due to it having 5 tiny little holes on top where it loops over the rear axle.

I purchased an aftermarket mandrel bend (stock pipe removed was also mandrel bent) intermediate
pipe (same size). While I was there, I decided to get them to replace the two tail pipes
(stock bent down, hidden under bumper) leading from the 80-series flowmaster and replace it
with straight tail pipes with 9" chrome tips

I like the new look, however am *NOT* liking the sound of the exaust. My new exhaust is soo
low, it's like a mustang with hollow tail ends (but quiter).. It's NEVER been this low..

I can't see my Intermediate pipe with the tiny holes in it cause THAT much of a louder exhaust
that a replaced new intermediate pipe would be DEAD QUITE. I've been told years ago that
straight pipes produce a mellow/hollow tone no matter how long the straight tail pipes are.

And that the stock bent under bumper tail pipes produce a muscle car somewhat vibration
exhaust and vibrates the ground on idle. That is how my car USED to be like before the change
but whether the TINY cracks were the cause... I don't know.. All I know is that I do NOT like
this new hollow/mellow exhaust sound.

Is this TRUE?? Will I notice ANY sound difference changing from the straight tail end pipes to
stock type bent under pipes?

Anyone here know the exact angle of the bend tail ends? I don't have my originals anymore
obviously so I don't know the dimensions of the end tail pipes anymore.

I have uploaded some pictures of the BEFORE and AFTER exhaust to show you exactly what I HAD
and HAVE now.

If someone could measure their *STOCK* exhaust (dual cat-back) tail ends (bent down), that were
be most appreciated. I would need the following measurements.

[Passenger side]

1. Both Outer diameter and the inner diameter of the tail pipe.
1. Length from of pipe where it enters muffler to the first 90 degree bend towards back of car
2. Length from that 90 degree bend to the beginning of that bend at the tip of the tail pipe.
3. The angle at which the end tip is bent to.
4. height from the top of the tail pile to the bottom of the now bent parallel tip
(To find out how long the tip is from where it is bent downwards to the tip which would be
probably like 3 inches or something)

[Driver side]

(To find out how long the tip is from where it is bent downwards to the tip which would be
probably like 3 inches or something)

what you heard about straight pipes being "quieter" is somewhat true.its only quieter on the inside, because the sound isnt being directed towards the ground and bouncing back up at the car.on the outside though its probably a bit louder directly behind the car,now that the exhaust is being expelled right after the bumper, instead of down and then echoing back off the ground.im sure it sounds great outside the car!

If your 9" chrome tips are bigger than the 2.5" turndown tips, it creates a megaphone effect that magnifies the sound waves.

Hmmm.. the tail pipes are stock size (2.5"?) and tips are obviously a tad larger because they fit tightly over the pipes.

shows the tip over the tail pipe.

http://www.camarosource.ca/chrome_tips_1.jpg
shows you that the end of the tail pipe inside the tip and almost cut off at the very front of the chrome tip

I agree with the previous post. Try listening to your exhaust from outside the car while you have a friend step on the gas. I'll bet you wont be disappointed then

Think of it this way, not only does your exhaust sound quieter from the inside, but so will the sometimes annoying "drone" sound.
