Headman long tubes, all information needed ASAP

I am about to put my new motor in my car and I cant really afford the hooker long tubes right now, So I am now looking at the headmans, I did a search but could not come up with anything good, How do they fit? better or worse than hookers? Tell me everything you know about them. The only thing I know is that they are 1 5/8 instead of 1 3/4. So let me know what you all know.

Thanks in advance

I've had both the Hooker and Hedman LT headers. I like the Hedmans much better. I bought the Hooker LT's for my 383 because of the 1 3/4 primaries but they didn't fit my car very well. The Hookers hit the crossmember in a couple of places and the brake lines. The worst part is if you have straight plug heads you will need to get shorty plugs. Even with a short plug the #7 tube didn't clear very well so I dented it. Even with the dent I wasn't happy with the clearance for the spark plug boot so I ended up having the #7 tube cut out and rerouted to clear the spark plug. After all that I still wasn't real happy with the fit so I bought the Hedmans. The Hedmans cost half as much and only required one small dent to clear the crossmember on the drivers side. All the Sparkplugs have plenty of clearance and are easy to change using a shorty wrench. I would definately recommend going with the Hedmans unless you can't live without the larger 1 3/4 primaries, I decided it wasn't worth the extra effort in my case.

I was reading an article online here somewhere where they dyno'd a 383 with both 1 5/8 and 1 3/4 inch primaries. The 1 5/8 actually made more power. The 1 3/4 had same hp but lost torque.

I just put a set in. Passenger side went in without a hitch from the top (my A/C has been deleted so thats a major factor), I only had to drop the starter which wasnt too bad compared to the drivers side. The drivers side header has to be put in from the bottom of the car, with shaving off a little of the bellhousing, one of the mounts so the collector wouldnt hit, a little off the frame rail, and quite a bit on the upper A Arm for one of the tubes to fit. Other than that a perfect fit. I'll get pics if I can.

Plugs are only tight in the center two of the have to be done frome the bottom and you either have to use a shortende plug socket or a wrench but all and all the plugs are way easier than with manifolds. I will go outside here in a second and get the plug pic for you.

I picked up 3 tenths in the quarter and close to three mile an hour. The only problems I have are the y-pipe is too close on the driver side and slightly too low on the passenger side but I made the call on that so it is my mistake. I have had some small problems with speed bumps but as long as I take it slow and at an angle if they are big enough I have no problems. If I had it to do over again I would but I would open up a little more clearance on the drivers side and I would have a flange put in where the Y and I pipe meet so I could remove the y-pipe to get the tranny easier. I have a very good exhaust man though and without him it would have never happened.

Car: projects.......
I deffintely like my Headman LT's. Would do them over again in a heartbeat. I wouldn't do the true duals though. Not worth the effort. I'd run a y-pipe and a 3" cat-back.

biff85ta - Nice exhaust. Thats what I'd do if I did another car.

later, justin...

screw that all you need !!

Hedman LT-68460=119.99
flowmaster H-pipe 2.5inch 15920=36.99
Hedman Xtension S pipes=21.99 (pair-or-each?)

CHEAP TRUE DUAL EXHAUST!

PIC first you see headers, then s-pipes(what they do as you can see is give you that clearance from collector to under tranny) , Then the S-pipes go into the H pipe,(you can not see the middle of the H pipe in this pic), Then weld on the mufflers of your choice!

This is not my car. I had the same problem(not enough money for an awesome tru dual) did a search on this website and found that pic and set-up Your welcome

Don't forget mufflers. I thought about true duals but since I already had the three inch catback I just ordered up the x-tensions a flowmaster Y and had the local shop connect them all for a lot less than duals would have cost.
