Anyone with Hooker LTs (2210) and "L98 Angle Plug" heads?

Just trying to see if I will run into a problem with regard to fitment. I have AFR190 heads with the L98 Angle Plug which is totally different than the standard angle plug. These heads work great with SLP headers but I just wanted to see if anyone is running the L98 Angle Plug with the Hooker SuperComp Long Tubes (2210).

Steve was having some spark plug issues with this combo. I don't know if he resolved it yet or not.

Trax,

I found a website (see below) that listed the Hooker SC LT (Model 2210) headers and some application footnotes. One of the footnotes (#62) for model 2210 was that it WILL work with angle plug heads. Not sure if they mean ALL angle plug heads, but here is the URL:

www.martelbros.com/hooker/9.htm

My AFR 190s are straight plug heads.

Good luck!!

406,

I am in the process of installing my 383 back into the car. I have the Hooker 2210s ready to install. I have no y-pipe yet. I am shopping for one or considering having the muffler shop build me one. What do suggest?

I heard the Mufflex y-pipe is pretty good. I may race the car with straight headres! :-)

Thanks!

Well, I just installed the Mufflex y-pipe. I had to do alittle custom cutting and denting in the right places but I finally got it all to fit togther correctly on the car. For what it's worth, if you can find a local muffler shop to do it for you, I would probably go that route...of coarse, this is after spending several hours on my back wrestling around with it

An old subject back from the dead ....

Has anyone else installed Hooker SuperComp long tube headers on a motor with L98 Angle Plug heads? This includes any of the ZZ crate motors, corvette style aluminum heads, L98 style AFRs, or the Edelbrock centerbolts for TPI F-bodies. I'm getting ready to install my long tubes in the next couple of months and I'm just trying to see if I'm going to run into spark plug clearance problems.

hey trax...i dont know the difference between l98 angle plug and other angle plug. but i have had more problems doing my motor than i car to write down in one sitting! but....my brodix track 1's and the hooker super comps fit well together and with plenty of room to spare. on a second note...
i tried slp shorties (1 3/4) and could not fit the plugs in even dimpling the headers...but others on here use the l98 heads and slp's (so this leads me to believe l98 and brodix angles are different) SO THIS TYPING WAS A WASTE OF TIME!! but anyway.... after i get my oil pan back from the welder...later on today....i will put it in...because the damn oil line comin out of the pan was in the way of the header...but i think i am unique with this problem!!

HAVE A NICE DAY

I just completed my 2210 install on AFR 190 STRAIGHT Plug heads. Only had trouble with one plug, #7.

If you do have a plug fitment problem I have an answer for you!! MAKE YOUR OWN SHORTY PLUGS!!

I did for my plug #7. I used an AC Delco FR3LS plug and modified it to fit perfectly. Car runs strong!!

87TPI,

Is there any chance you have pics of the track1's and the headers from the engine bay? And are you running the angle plug brodix?

Actually I was talking about the Hookers. I must have misunderstood your earlier message. But yes I would really appreciate some pics when you get them installed.

Back from the dead again. Hooker Super Comp Long Tube headers work GREAT with L98 angle plug heads. No interference problems at all.

Pics are huge. Broadband recommended.

Looks really good. I just got new heads, but didn't get angled ones, because I may use Hedman LTs. anyone know if these will work? if I had gotten angled plug heads?

My Coated 2210's worked great with the stock "non-angle" plugged L98 Heads. Any angle period will only be an improvement of spark plug and plug wire boot clearance! Dont worry, it WILL work better than non-angle plug heads.

To people like me, with Vortec heads and Hooker LT 2210's -

I dont know what is different about plug location on the Vortec heads vs. L98 heads, but the #7 primary is ALOT closer to the spark plug on the vortec heads. I'm going to have to dimple the #7 primary to allow a spark plug boot to fit onto the plug. (Tip of plug is 1/8 of an inch from primary) causing plug wire not able to be put on. On the bright side, dimpling the header primary slightly in that location will easily correct this issue.

The exhaust shop had to do a little custom fitting and dimpling on the mufflex y-pipe on my exhaust setup (but that is the case because I'm running a T-56 and SPD x-member.) Your results may vary. Just my $.02

Good luck Trax!

Mike,

Slightly off topic...... So the 2210s work out with the T56 alright? Any pics or descriptions of the clearance for the slave? I have the Spohn CM..... I am thinking of a custom Y-pipe instead of the Mufflex one as well.......

Thanks,
Matt

The headers work fine with the T-56, no clearance issues at all! The slave has plenty of room. It's the y-pipe that you WILL have issue's with!
