Red Hot Cat........Is That Normal?
I just installed a new Catco Converter when I did my headers a month ago. The other day I noticed a burning smell at a stop light, but was unable to figure it out. Tonight when I got home when the car was still running, I looked underneath and saw the cat was glowing bright red (inside the outer covering). None of the other exhaust components were glowing red, just the cat. I don't know if this is normal or if there is something messed up, but any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Matt

normally, if the cat is glowing red, that means it is stopped up, or that raw fuel is being dumped into the engine and collecting in the cat, i.e. a choke pull of valve or something like that(i dont know if you are running carb or EFI) be very careful driving it, it can get hot enough to burn the carpet inside your car, or just catch your whole car on fire. hope this helps. lil j

I am running EFI. That being the case, where should I look to fix this problem? I have noticed a gas smell recently, but I'm not sure from where. The cat is only a month old, so I don't think it would be stopped up. I am not sure how raw fuel would be dumped in, so I don't know how to cure that issue.
Also, I only have seen it glow red at night when it is dark outside. During the day, I have never noticed it. Last night when I looked at it, it was almost back to normal in 20 seconds after I turned the car off. Thanks

Actually I was just thinking that. I am going to check the plugs, wires, and probably the distributer and rotor, because I know the dist was starting to get some corrosion on the terminals. Thanks for the help.
