Sound compare, High Flow cat VS. strait pipe?

My current exhaust is too quiet with the stock cat. My friend has no cat and it sounds good. I dont want the pain of gettting a pipe made then having to change it for emissions, if I can just go high flow cat and get just about the same sound. Can anybody help?

Ok, I've got some experience here. I've done:

Straight Pipe
Stock OE Cat Converter
RT SHF Cat Converter

The straight pipe was the loudest with my stock exhaust. Very raspy, too.

The stock OE cat was caddy like in quiteness, but also choked off the rpms over 4800 compared to the bypass pipe.

The RT is not nearly as loud as the pipe, but, has a very nice low rumble at idle, and is acceptably loud on the highway with my 350 running at 60 mph @ 2Krpms.

I've already been complemented on the sound and they knew instantly I had a 350 L98...I hope this makes sense to you....

Hey CK!

Yes, the Ramdom Tech from TPIS is about $225 delivered. I think the Catco is about $90. Dynomax & Walker (same maker) are between $90-130, depending on where you shop. The RT cat was rated at, I think, 542 cfm, similar to a hi performance muffler. The Random has more PGMs in it than the others (Precious Metal Group) It's a huge advantage over the stock OEM unit and a 100 or so cfm advantage over the other cats, according to my research...

Sandy,i was looking at a test done by GMHTP and the test results in a 4th gen was nearly a doubled CFM flow,on our cars because they are way more restrictive then the 4th gens then it will surely be more then double,i am having my flows and hi-flow cat welded up in a few days,i cant wait to hear/see the results.

After i had my Random Tech Cat welded on along with my Flowmaster, i was truly impressed with what gains i had over the stock system...both in power, and sound. My car sounds as if it has headers...and i do not
