whats the best exhaust for a 3rd gen camaro.
mainly a z28 with a V8. whats the best. I am looking for the sound, but not enormously loud sound. I do want my presence to be felt. i want one that adds horsepower and lasts long but not expensive.

borla makes headers. i thought all they made were cat back systems and mufflers. what is the part number?

I like my applied technology stuff not many people have them but they sound great and give you more low end power. They make them for pontiacs and chevys. All 3" Stainless.

What Mine sounds like go Click here or go to the quicktime movie towards the bottom of movie page.

In my opinion, its mainly a preference to what you like on your car. Single outlet systems flow better than cross flow systems, but IMO, they don't look nearly as good. I have been very happy with my Hooker system, I got it from Jegs for $260. I think if I had the money, I would buy a Random Technology cat-back, but like I said, I am very happy with the Hooker Aerochamber I have now, and strongly recomend it.

I'm with Dan on the looks of the dual exit pipes. I was pleased to find that Dynomax makes a Race Series Ultra-flow "Welded" (what ever they call it)that has dual exits. Dual exits although one side is pretty straight through. I did a good bit of research on "dual exit" mufflers,, and I ended up with this one,, for what that's worth. While they do not offer a kit for it,, they do offer seperate part numbers so you can make your own,, not bad really.
Here's a picture and parts listing

This is an inlet to outlet shot of the 17227 Dynomax (3” inlet, dual opposite exit 2.5” tailpipes)http://albums.photopoint.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=1628009&a=12487909&p=45950157&f=0

I have an Edlebrock TES headers and cat back. The headers were a pain to put in, but which aren't. They added a nice increase in power and a great note on sound. However, they are very prone to rust, even if you don't leave the car out in the weather. You could have them coated though. However, the cat back is great. It went in real easy, is alluminized and hasn't rusted in almost 5 years (the muffler might be stainless I am not totally positive) and the note is great. At idle the car isn't loud but you can hear the power in it, it sounds fairly normal driving around town, but step on it and you have that great all out race sound really nice. I didn't keep the tips that it came with put dual 3 inch monza tips on mine and it looks and sounds killer. The resonators in the tip really sound great, much better than when I first put it on with just the pipes. All this, and at a price that's hard to compete with. I do think the borla stuff is real nice too, the stainless is great, but I personally find the sound to be a little more mellow, but they do cost quite a bit more, although now they have the nice option of not having the flow go through the muffler, pretty cool. Good luck and have fun.

Hooker sounds great, comes with decent tips, and doesn't cost as much as the more expensive cat-backs. When upgrading exhaust, definetly go for a hi-flo cat though. Either catco or dynomax thrush will do just fine and cost about 100. Just my .02

IMO only7 if you want a rumbling exhaust note at WOt but a mellow tone @ idle i would IMO recommend a Vortex Cherrybomb exhaust i think this has a really mellow soun to it for a 350 it might be a little louder BUT for a 305 it is just the sound I want and IT IS louder than OEM i had the install shop weld on Z-28 tips and they look good too! IMO ONLY

IMO everyone has a flowmaster. I love the edelbrock. It sounds nice and quiet at idle and when you rev her damn she purrsss. Of course I have no cat which makes it even better.

check it out at www.edelbrock.com and go to exhaust sounds. they have it on a LT1

I heard Edelbrock's system on a tpi 350. Or I should actually say,"I couldn't hear it!!" If you like quiet, "sleeper" type exhaust then it's great, but if you want to here your car, don't get it.

3 inch sysyems? I could settle for nothing less that 4. 4 is the magic number. The power gain from stock is incredible. The noise too, is incredible. Infact, everyone that looks at the size of the pipes laughs at the hugeness of them. I refer to it as the bus exhaust.

I just spent $270 at a local exhaust shop and had them run true dual 3" to a couple of ProFlow Mufflers and 3" tails dumping in front of the rear wheels. It sounds nice at idle and at WOT, it just plain kicks *** . It is loud, demands respect, and kicks the crap out of my old Flowmaster catback.

Does that include your cats, or didn't you put any back on? I'm having trouble finding a shop to put true duals in mine, cuz they all want to put cats on along with it, but I don't want them on. How'd you get the shop to do yours?

Other than the expense, there is nothing wrong with cats...The restriction of a high-flow cat is negligable...and your car won't pollute as much...
