Coated Hooker 2055s?
Hey guys, the guy from Jet-Hot just wrote me back and told me he could sell me the coated hooker 2055s (CA smog legal) for $525. The regular 2055s at summit are $349. Does this sound like a good deal? I'm pretty much paying $175 for the coating- is this what I should expect to pay? Is the coating really worth it- (really cuts down on heat, keeps spark plug wires happy, and increase in power???) Oh and will these headers allow me to still replace spark plugs fairly easily? And I won't install them untill the motor is pulled (installed with new engine), so will dropping them in along with the whole new motor be easier than installing them with the engine already in the car? Oh and in the picture, it doesn't look to me that they have the holes in them for A.I.R. (which I need here in CA)- can I get these headers (coated) with the A.I.R. inlets? Let me know what you all think. -89IRO

Sounds good to me. They quoted me at $280 to coat long tubes in Sterling.
Coating is very worth it IMO, after owning uncoated ones and burnign several wires, no more for me.

It is worth it, I'm going to be buying those same headers in about a month hopefully.
The coating is worth it from what I've read on the boards. It seems as though everyone who bought uncoated headers says the wish they had gotten them coated. As for the A.I.R., the headers are 50 state legal, so they have the A.I.R. hookups. Don't ya hate emissions?

Oh they do have the A.I.R. holes in them? Maybe I should take a closer, second look. Yeah, there are some sucky things about living in CA. Could you actually feel a noticable decrease in under-hood temperature with the coated headers? And I heard you could actually touch them with you hands and they won't burn you- is that true? -89IRO

do these headers have the air tubes welded on them or do you have to use the original one of the manifolds.

The only thing you take off your old manifolds for the A.I.R. setup is the check valves. The tubes themselves are welded into the primaries.
Someone posted pics of coated 2055's not too long ago.
I'd say the price you were quoted is especially good if they are coating the y-pipe as well. If that doesn't include y-pipe coating, get a price that includes coating it and the headers. I used high temp paint on mine, headers still look fine after 13 months and 10k miles, but y-pipe isn't doing so well (was able to bake the headers in the oven, but not the y-pipe). Since the driver's side pipe runs right under the oil pan, the heat insulation properties of the coating is a good thing to have there, too.

You asked about spark plug access. I also put the headers on the engine while on the stand, and plugs at the same time. Let me put it to you this way - I don't look forward to the time when I have to change the plugs.
Spark plug wire clearance was also tight, so I used Accel shorties (276S). The stock #4 wire was straight boot, the headers require a 90 degree boot. Otherwise, the wires routed in the factory manner with no issues.

Plug access kinda sucks ***. I did mine after the engine was installed. The hardest part is getting a socket on them. If I could find a good offset box end wrench it would be pretty simple though. Wires we not that hard, but you'll need all 90* boots

Oh and according to SLP, they say that the 5.0 should have 1 5/8 headers while the 5.7 should have 1 3/4. Would I be O.K. with just the 1 5/8 on my 5.7L? Becuase I'm not too excited about the SLPs and their outrages price- plus I've heard 1 3/4s are a bitch to get in these cars. The hooker 2055s will be on a new zz4 (4 bolt) with crane cam (full valv.), and maybe warmed over heads (I stress maybe). So will the Hooker 2055s 1 5/8s be up to dealing with this combo.? By the way, I've already got a full 3" exhaust. -89IRO

89IRO Wrote 89, IMO, it's just SLP's way of saying, "here dump your cash on these".. Everybody knows how much of a PITA 1 3/4 headers are to install.. Sure they flow better, but the 1 5/8 should be good for around 450 hp. As soon as my 2055's come in, they are going to Jet Hot for the coating.. $180 for the headers, and $12 per foot for the other pipe, inside and out. Just hope my Magnecor wires will still fit..

Hey I ran for the longest time those cheap crap Hedman 1 5/8 Headers and crap Y-pipe. I was making well over 480 horses... I DID NOTICE a HUGE change in top end however when I hooked the Y-pipe up to the catback. By actually have a Muffled exhaust system I probably lost no less than 30 Horsepower..... Makes me wonder eh.
