Am I making the right header choice?
Here are the specs for my car:
1992 Camaro RS
Stock 305 TBI
Open Air Element
3" Pipes to a 3" Flowmaster Muffler with 2.5" tailpipes
Will be getting a 3" High-flow cat
I am looking for some good headers, my budget is $500. I was looking at the Edelbrock, Hooker, Hedman, and SLP headers....obviously SLP is out of the question (arent they like $650?) I have looked around and it seems like most people like the Hooker Super Comp Shortie Headers (Part number 2055) I do have a couple of questions though........first of all.....on the hooker website and in the jegs catalog...it says it is made for 86-90 Camaros with 305-350 engines......furthermore on the site it says it fits TPI engines with 3" single inlet cat only......by adding the 3" high-flow cat...it should ok right? or will it not fit at the engine? I need to keep the AIR and O2 sensor due to emmissions. Also, I have looked at the jegs site....and they are going for $349.99 there...anyone know anywhere cheaper? I also want to get them coated with the Metallic Ceramic coating....about how much will that cost me? Is there another choice that may be better? Thanks

Best thing would be SLP 1 5/8" for you but if you plan to go 350 any time soon you may want to consider 1 3/4 they arent too much go to www.slponline.com heck the 1 3/4" coated ones are 550 get uncoated since youre on a budget, they will last anyway cause of the stainless they are made out of, hope this helps, cya.

if you have 500 to work with go with the slp's. they are the best I have seen. other than cost I can't think of any reson to use anyone else.

One more question...what will happen if I do get 1 3/4" and put them on a 305? I will be getting a 350.....but not until my 305 goes.....and we know how long they last.

I would go for the Edelbrock TES if I were you. I have had great experience with them and so have lots of other people who I am friends with. I got them for like $310 from Jegs.

I just got the hooker with the PN you said. they say its for TPI because TBIs have that heat riser thing that attaches to the stock air cleaner. My 3" cat should be in next week. You can get pretty much the same headers but not smog legal from Hooker for $150 then coat them for another $150.

Go with the 1 3/4" on your 305 ONLY if you plan on putting a 350 in real soon. You'll be disappointed in the performance with those headers on the 305. Bigger isn't always better.
1 1/2" headers will give you more bottom end torque than larger ones will but 1 5/8" will allow better flow at the top end. My 383 (below) only used 1 5/8" headers.
Depending on your climate, the life expectance of mild steel headers is only about 5-6 years before they start to rot. Coating them will greatly increase the life out of them. Stainless headers will last a long time but also cost a lot more.
Get the Hookers and have them coated.

The SLP's are on a group purchase right now. Check the GP board on here. The Edelbrock's work fine for a TBI with the small cam and heads, but for anything else, the SLP's, or Hooker, or Hedman, or Dynomax are better, in my opinion.
