true or false
I talked to a guy at a muffler shop about getting headers installed. He said the largest pipes that would fit to the back of the car are 2". True or False?
If true, will dual 2" exhaust be adequate for a 383 stroker?
If false, what is the fix? thanks a bundle!

AND...I don't have to worry about being smog legal. What all will I need to complete an excellent header, dual exhaust system? I have never done this before and need to pick out and price the items needed. Thank you.

I've got 3 inch running from the headers back so I'd have to say he's just too lazy to take the time to bend a larger pipe out the back. The fix? go to another shop and see what they say.

false. Aftermarket cat-back setups are the way to go. Saves time and money. Plus their bend quality and routing quality is usually better than what a shop is capable of.

He seemed kind of lazy. I will take an evil journey to other shops in my quest for someone who is willing to go to the ends of the Earth, bend over backwards, climb the highest mountain an swim the widest sea to get the proper pipes put on with 2 40 series Flowmasters. If you have found someone with good work ethic, you have found gold.

speedlvr--- even though duals on a camaro would be nice it is so hard to get them to fit right and have ground clearance let alone get them over the back axle. If you have a 383, a large set of shorty headers (1-3/4) with the matching y-pipe plus an offroad pipe(where the cat goes) and 3" all the way to the back with a straight through single chamber race flowmaster will easily meet the needs of this engine.(this is assuming that you will make 400hp.) If you are making large amounts of power(450+hp) then you should checkout an ad in the back of Chevy high performance, a company called Mufflex(www.Mufflex-Performance.com or (609)890-0481) sells a 4" cat back system (which means this system that is for sale starts at the outlet of the cat and goes all the way to the rear of the car). This 4" system could easily handle the 383 especially if you have no cat in the system. This is just my opinion and all the info i have provided is from personal experience or what i have read in books.

here's a response I put in another thread.
"if power is your concern, then go ahead and run dual 3".
you will have to modify the floor pan and tranny crossmember on the driver side, but you wouldn't be the first one. You only have to do it once, and you'll be glad you did. No more exhaust kits, cat-backs, or having to get a shop make your exhaust..
it will be straight and you can make it all yourself."

I have ordered some Hooker shorty competition headers. They have 1 5/8 primaries as opposed to the super competition headers with 1 3/4 tubes. The reasons being that 1/8" difference is not a whole hell of a lot and there was a $200 difference between the two. They will have 2" duals with mini turbo mufflers that fit sideways by the tranny. I know this will be a lot better than the stock exhaust that's on there now and if I think it sux dix, I'll change it later.

actually you can get the long tubes from musclemotors.com....for only 360. since you are running duals you dont need a y pipe and the hooker shorties will come with a y pipe and will be hard to hook up the duals to. if your goin with duals u should get the 1 3/4 long tubes part no 2210. be easier to hook up too. i would go with bigger than 2 inches...atleast 2.5.
