Borla, please step in

Ok , a friend of mine told me that if you want power and sound, go with Borla. now before everyone starts in about price, I know it is expensive but I am willing to pay it if necessary. anyway, what is everyone's opinion? worth it or not?

TexasLT1,
Wish I had an LT1 under my hood. As far as the Borla exhaust, I would definetly give it a thumbs up. I orginally had it in my 86Z28 and now in my 92RS.
PRO's...Stainless steel (a plus when I lived in Washington State..snow) interchangeable plates and it looks good from the rear. 4 tips exiting the rear. (If you would like, I can send you a pic) I've had mine for a total of 9 years and still looks as good as new.
CON's...The price tag.
There are other stainless steel cat back sytems out there that are cheaper than Borla, but none with interchangeable plates.

thanks, I need the stainless also since I live on the Gulf coast, but yeah, if you could, send me a pic. actually, I don't like the four tips exiting, I want to try to keep it the stock look so I want the drain pipe turn downs or whatever they're called. I don't know though, I haven't seen the four tips actually mounted on a car, I've just seen them in the catalogs. Oh, and it is great having an LT1:-) this spring I'm getting nitrous and 3.73's. I can't wait to see my 1/4 miles after that! thanks for the help

I also have borla's system, it is great and a good investment,I bought mine before they perfected the assembly line,so it looks like crap, all crooked in the rear and scraping the ground now,but thats due to midas idiot who welded my cat,I'm really just bitch'n about this so much because I lost my reciept and invoice, and I can't get it replaced for free under warranty,so make sure you keep your reciepts and invoices, and take it to a shop THAT HAS DONE THIRDGEN BORLA SYSTEMS BEFORE!!!!! because of the slightly "complexity" of the system.my niegbor put borla's on his '98 camaro, can't remeber the exact numbers in the 1/4 ,but it was considerable and almost undrivable on the street with the plate open!!,when I open the plate on my 305 HO I get exellent WOT performance,......sucessful police evasion performance!!!! even the double angle cut tips are pretty inconspicous on the 3rdgens,they don't stick out from the bumber, they look stock as far as I'm concerned.
you will love the sound too!! open or closed.

john5.7 87Iroc, Nice car. When did you buy your Borla system? I noticed that your tips are different from mine.

thanks to both of you for the pics, I definately like the look, and now I really want the system because I need something, I just dont want to do what everyone else does (i.e. Flowmaster), I like to be different. about those restrictor plates, how and where do you put them at and what kinda difference do they make?

texas,I just changed the plate from the solid "silencer plate" which closes the right side tail pipe and routes all the ex. through the muffler(it is a 3" single in/single out) out the left tail pipe,I changed out the plate to the open 2.5" dia,now letting the exaust straight out the right,it becomes a fork in the road for the escaping fumes, most get out of the opening before the muffler, and the rest get throught the muffler which still has an exellent "resonant effect" on the noise, louder but still under control (cops will never f#*k with you,it's not the 300db "pull me over" flowmaster sound) I changed it because it didn't look right with exaust steam coming out of just one side! the flange is under the right rear, after the axle, easy to get to no lifting nec. it took me 5-min,I'm running a bone stock remanufactured 305 HO(100mi)700r4(rebuilt 25k)and original 3.73LS gear, headman 1 5/8" 5.7TPI shortys, high flow cat 2.25" i/o and borla,so I wouldn't expect much difference, boy was I wrong!!!I was having doubts about the engine shop,I thought they might have replaced it with a plane jane 305,instead of the stock 5.0 HO,HO has 50 more horses than the non HO so it's almost as good as a stock 350,they definitly put the HO 5.0 in there!!no doubts anymore. all of a sudden it's a whole different car, first thing out to test drive I didn't even get down the street before some teenage girl is waving to me givin' me the ol' "spin em' up" gesture by rotating her hands!!!ha ha.. what a trip,I let a little chirp go for her but I just got the engine new yesterday so I wasn't goimg to get too crazy, all the way through town people are lookin' like at the car,it's got that smooth harmonic rumble similar to the 302 mustangs, but it doesn't sound like a ford don't get me wrong,it retains the distinc bowtie growl.improved throttle response at very low rpms (I havn't brought the engine over 3000rpms yet,but I can garuantee superior power band performance!!,with your LT1,my friend, that will be simply out of control!!!let us know what happens.

but hey I'm no expert,I'm just junkyarddog

junkyarddog, that sounds bada$$! I can't wait to get my system, I'm just going to have to wait longer than I first thought. there are to many other things on my to-do list that have higher priority, dashpad, headliner, nitrous :-), but it will definately be a long wait for the exhaust. I know one thing for sure, I'm not telling any of my friends that I'm going to get it until I drive up and they hear it! thanks for the help though, you've definatey made up my mind!

thanks for the pics, they look great. but I've got a question, do the tips come already on the pipes or do you have to put them on yourself? the reason I'm asking is because that sticks out just a bit to far for my tastes, I would rather it be a coupla inches under the bumper

TexasLT1,
The tips come already on the pipe. On the driver side of the muffler you have 2 separate pipes going into the muffler itself, while on the passenger side has 2 pipes going into one. You could always have a weld shop shorten the length of the pipe. I suggest installing it then decide how much you want to shorten it.
