No the guy was dead serious. He said if I was underage he couldnt do it. Mainly because it was pretty illegal and he didnt think the car was in my name but it is.

The owner of the shop was the one that told the dude to make sure I was 18 before they went any further.

Hell I had to tell them I had a 500HP 400sbc strip only car just so they put the damn exhaust on....they wouldnt stop trying to push they ****ty flowmaster catbacks on me...

I don't think many people want to spend that kind of money on an exhaust.

I just want to get rid of the damn leaks! Got my collector gaskets last week, percy's dead soft, but have to get my daily driver running before I can fool around under the Camaro. I was quoted $180 for true dual from an exhaust shop around here, but he wanted to run it UNDER the rear axle... he said "just don't let any fat chicks ride in it"... needless to say, I am still shopping around.

The reason that he got carded is that all these newby drivers are getting loud exhaust on thier cars and then go home. Once there, their parent make the shop take it back off. Then the shop has used crap to get rid of. That has been happening around here for about a year.

I figured there was a reason for it.

Under the rear axle?!?!?!?? The mufflers would seriously touch the ground. I have my mounted before the axle to the floor boards. Maybe 3'' of clearance. Driving alone is fine but you better not get a fat chick or you will rip it off or if your big yourself you might wanna look somewhere else. I only weight 170 pounds and with a 220 pound friend of mine in the car we scrapped going over train tracks and negative 2 mph

creeping and it still scrapped.

Havent had a problem when it was just me and my 14 year old brother tho...so as long as you get a skinny chick youll be fine

If its 180$ for the pipe and mufflers jump on that. I had almost everything I needed for the exhaust and I got charged 100$

Honestly i dont think your dual exhaust is going to do anything that flowmaster cat back would not have done for your 305....... other than you can say you have true dual exhaust.

I really have a 406 small block not 500 hp but around 400 hp and i am using the 3 inch flowmaster cat back... no probs

First off I dont have a 305....I have a 350 thats getting a lt4 hotcam and heads (not sure which yet) this summer. My setup sounds much much better than a flowmaster catback...

and I HAVE flowmasters on it now and had one of their crappy flowmaster catbacks on it.

Flowmaster catbacks are good but not theres...horrible bends and everything.

Ahhh... I see. You were referring to THEIR Flowmaster cat-back, not Flowmaster cat-backs in general. Because there is no real way to say this one sounds better then that one.... Personal preference is all. But to be yappin about how Flowmaster cat-backs suck , is to do so out of one's ****.

Huh? Well, Brody, I don't want your *** anyways.... .

Flowmasters sound plenty nice :

Distorted, but decent sound clip of a Flowmaster equipped SBC.

i have a single 3" flowmaster exhaust w/o a cat. flowmaster 40 series delta flow race muffler. it sounds good, but if you have heard a dual exhaust car with a bunch of HP then you will know a single bendy exhaust sucks when it comes down to sound. c'mon you know you have heard a high HP with dual 3" you gotta think it sounds good

my friend has true dual and he hates it because u cant drive 10 feet with out it scraping the ground. someone on this board just wrote a post about how his cat back ripped off and mangled itself. theres a good possibility that it could catch on something and easily be gone in a second. i'm not sayin dont do it but i am sayin be careful.... - beast

I have true duals on a thirdgen and I havent scrapped it yet with just me in the car besides the time i tried to go over railroad tracks to fast. Didnt rip it off or anything just scratched.

I have new KYB shocks and struts with original springs. The springs are getting changed soon so that should help my clearance and stiffen me up quiet a bit.

Brody...i hope you make it to Thirdgen Nationals I want you to hear my beast.

Oh and brody is right once youve heard true duals compared to the single youll probably need to run home and change pants real quick

its not the tailpipes that hang down its the mufflers. If you could find some really skinny mufflers it wouldnt be bad at all. Or maybe route glasspacks (ewww) somewhere and squeeze them in somewhere.

I like my setup even tho it hangs low. It sounds awesome.

My car has true dual 3" exhaust from the collectors all the way back....it has hooker ceramic coated supercomp's with 1-3/4 primaries, 3" collectors, 3 inch pipe which comes straight back, does a few twists and turns around the tranny crossmember, it stays a few inches apart then passes through the south side machine lift bars crossmember, spreads out as it passes underneath the rear end, and bends up to meet the two warlock mufflers with 3.5 inch chrome tips

if i nail a bad bump the exhaust at the crossmember will hit, but thats the price you pay for dual 3" on this car....my brother has the exact same setup minus the ssm kit wth 2" pipe, and his has never hit before

CheezX has a true dual system similar to mine on his car the runs under the axle..

I've got dual 2½" on mine, clearance is good considering a flat and nearly flat tire. It's not costly to do if you can do it yourself.

thats a pretty sweet setup man, the advantage to going under tehe axle is that you dont have to hack anything to do it, but yours looks nice and clean....i have that panhard bar too, do you have the LCA's as well?

I don't think many people want to spend that kind of money on an exhaust.

Very true, but consider the following:

1)
I paid $80 for a crossover. I didn't "have" to do this.

2)
I paid for seven 180-degree mandrel bends from Jegs and Summit. I didn't have to do this. The system could have been bent at the muffler shop.

3)
I didn't have to pay $134 per muffler. I could have used any cheap bullet style straight through muffler at a fraction of the cost.

4)
I did not have to pay $60 per hour for the labor to install the system (it took five hours). I could have gone to someone a LOT cheaper. The only reason I did not was because the guy who built my system has done a lot of work for me in the past. I wanted this system to be as perfect as possible. I paid for his experience, knowing he would build it to my level of satisfaction.

Another consideration)
You always hear guys complaining about the lack of ground clearance on their true dual systems. My design has as much ground clearance as a stock or any catback system out there. That's because it uses the stock routing.

Summary
My system could be had at less than HALF of what I paid.

Drawback
The one drawback I can think of is the fact that there is only one location for the mufflers, the stock location. Because you'll need a pair of mufflers in this position, space can be a limiting factor as to the shape of the mufflers. Bullet style mufflers are no problem. Anything larger might be.

thats unfortunate dude that alot of cash....most shops (as im sure you are aware) dont want to do this job, and in fact tried to tell me it was impossible

the guy that did my exhaust is a very unusual combination, hes really good, really fast, and really cheap. I stayed at the shop while he did the work (he prefers that for custom work, so he can OK everything with you) i got there at about 10am, i left at 12:30. completely done, fully welded....it was fairly impressive to watch him work. anyways, the custom pipe bending ran me about 300 bucks (he's a local guy that wanted his name on the project, and ive done some fence work for him in the past too) so it was a little cheaper than maybe the dude next door. i think my warlock muffflers cost me 60 bucks a piece from summit. so not counting the headers, the exhause cost about 420 bucks which is not bad at all.

it also sounds totally unique with the warlocks (especially when you take the cap off, holy **** is that loud)

<~~ 500hp 406. and i have a 3" y pipe/flowmaster. but instead of going duals.. im going to keep my current set up and just add an electronic *or manaul.. depending on $$ at the time* cut-outs on the ends of each header.

that dual exhaust running over the axle looks awesome and you dont have any ground clearance.

The shop didnt want to do mine the way it is....and it was simple to bolt on but kills ground clearance.

Going duals can be as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be.

Look at my setup...less than 390$ for everything including install and that includes the header price.

Then some guys spend more than that on a single 3'' system and do not sacrafice clearance, some guys run insane dual systems that cost big$$ but have no clearance issues...

it really just depends on how much cash you have and what you want. they say you cant do duals on our cars but you can...how you do it depends on how deep your wallet is.
