spintech catback

I see a few people mentioning spintech exhausts. Is everybody custom piecing the system or are you finding catbacks somewhere? The Mufflex 3.5" catback is way more exhaust than I need and costs too much. I see that spintech sells their mufflers affordably, but I don't see any catbacks except for the LS1 f-bodies. so... for those of you that are running spintechs, how is it rigged up? I don't really want to dump in front of the rear axle if I can help it, so I'd like to use a stock-style setup with the dual outlet 3" or 3.5" spintech muffler.

I spoke with SpenTech a few years back about their mufflers. They make a replacement muffler for our cars. They told me then that they almost matched the flowmaster in performance numbers. Thier good mufflers but I just didn't like the sound of them. It's hard to explain but your best bet is to get some sound clips of it or find somebody locally you has some installed.

Hope that helps.

What did you not like about the sound? Too loud or too quiet? Does it sound like a flowmaster? I'm curious because I'm planning on buying a mufflex system, but i'm trying to choose between the spintech and the flowmaster.

Here's how my setup sounds. First part is just taking off normaly, second bit is just reving while parked and the last bit, the camera was about 6 feet away from the rear tire out to the side. Stupid slipping alt. belt and uncaped air tube checkvalves make up the other noises It's loud in person and you can feel the vibrations on your chest plus sets off car alarms in parking lots lol.

To be honest, I can't give you an answer on the sound question. I really don't remember exactly why I didn't like the sound. You have to remember this was almost 4 years ago when I put the cross-flow flowmaster on and around 100 gallons of beer later. But like I've said in other posts, sound is a personal taste. Just cause I don't like it doesn't mean you or somebody else won't.

i have a local exhaust guy and he said i could put a system together with full mandrel bends. he can get me the 3 in I pipe for 100 then just the cost of the muffler and some elbows / turndowns for a total of roughly 250 installed. whatever he quotes is what he will do it for. i was looking at a single in single out but the dual setup would only have been a little more.

he's installed a couple spintech systems and mufflers for people, very straight forward kind of guy. talk to some exhaust shops in your area they maybe able to do the same for you. he didnt have a 3in. pipe bender thats why he said i should buy some 90* elbows and a turndown to get the look i wanted.

I have the Spintech muffler(3' inlet, dual 2.5" out). I had the exhaust shop rig up a cat back system for me. I personally love the way it sounds. It is pretty loud though, compared to Flowmaster.

I've got a 2.5" dynomax Super Turbo catback. It's about all I could get that bolted to my stock 85 4-bolt cat (which is long gone now)

I get funny looks from the local exhaust shops if I use big words like "mandrel". maybe I should start asking around though.

yeah my local shop that i like to use doesnt actually have a mandrel bender but he can put a system together for you. the I pipe is already mandrel ($100 qouted) and a 90* elbow and a turndown besides the muffler and it was all mandrel.

the owner/manager is a cool guy. little bit *******, little bit rock and roll. he installs allot of performance mufflers, flowmasters mostly and does a good job of getting an exhuast on your hot rod or custom truck. kind of place you like though no computers just a hand written receipt and a hand shake.

oh i found this place when i had blown the exhaust on my daily beater a couple yrs ago, it was a midas muffler i think. anyway it was **** and i had taken it back to have it replaced (just the muffler), they quoted me $250. called around and this place, auto muffler king said bring it down and he would take a look and give me quote. well he quoted me $100 and 1 hr total no tax just 100 straight up, plus he did a little extra cutting and welding for me for that price.

i have since had them fix the flowmaster that is currently on my iroc, was there when i bought it but was hung by a retard. they took a look and it needed major straightening out and a new hanger or 2 made, the right tail pipe was hung from a metal hanger into the chassis and the muffler was hitting the heat shield very, very squeaky . anyway they quoted me a price of $50 to straighten everything out so it fit correctly and made a couple hangers. actaully took 1.5 hrs to do it all, where else can i get 1.5 hrs of work for 50 bucks plus material. they also sell car sound cats and other goodies. want some chrome tips for the back, he's got'em.
