Finally!! A sound clip of my Dynomax cat-back!!!!

Here it is!!!

I know that Mark won't like it, but I don't care!!!

Just so you don't have to click on my link in my sig, here are my current mods.

Dynomax 2 1/2" cat-back exhaust system - $159

High Flow Cat - $60

Taller air cleaner lid w/ 3" K&N air filter - $60

Jet Stage II Performance chip - $50 used

185*-200* Hypertech Fan Switch w/ 180* T-Stat - $50

B&M Transpak Shift Improver Kit - $60

PowerTrax Locking Differential - $360

As you can see, it's a stock cam, stock intake, and stock heads. Plus this engine has +180K miles (or 300K kilometers for you foreigners) on it. But it sounds GOOOOD!!!

BTW, it sounds kinda fluttery 'cause the mic was catching some air. That's not how the pipes sound.

Is that supposed to be funny? I suppose if you knew how to use proper English then it MIGHT be funny.

I know. It's cool.

I was just making a joke on top of your joke. You "made fun" of the way my car sounds, so I made fun of the way you typed your response. That's all.

It's actually a Maremont (spelling?). 2 1/4" in, 2 ½" out and IIRC, the case is only 14". It might only be 12". I'll measure it tomorrow. I got it at AutoZone.

There's a reason I bought Maremont. I was talking with a guy who knows a lot about the "In's" and "Out's" of the automotive industry and he told me some interesting things.

There are only 2 companies that are licensed in the USA to make the internal material for catalytic converters, but there's only one patent. Any companies, whether they're aftermarket of OEM, that sell cats, all have the same internal material inside because they have to get it from either of these 2 companies.

What matters, as far as flow is concerned, is how much they have in there. A good reason for you to ask what size mine is. The best thing they can do is get as little in there as needed for it to pass emissions testing.

I just uploaded my other clip. Couldn't get it to work earlier.

The other clip is me reving it past 4K RPM. It has that rattle that fiberglass packing has, but it doesn't do it while the engine's under load. If I ride it out with the shifter in 2nd gear to about 50mph, then let off, it has a nice burble sound.

Until I get my buddy over here with his laptop you'll have to believe me. Right now I don't have an extension cord long enough to put my PC in my car.

Just go here and you can hear either one.

Do you have all the part numbers for your setup?....catalytic converter.....cat-back.....etc.....

Did you have it welded in, or did you just use the clamps? I would like to do it myself and just use the clamps. Thanks for all your help.

Oh yeah, did you notice and SOTP difference??

Here's a link to another post where I put other links to Jegs for pricing and part#s for the cat-back. https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=130252

As far as the cat goes, I would just go to your local parts store and see what they've got. As long as it's a newer design, and doesn't cost over $100, then it'll work fine.

Mine's all clamps. There are only three. One into the muffler, and two out. Well that's not counting the ones to hold the stuff up. There's two of those.

The I-pipe is one piece from the cat to the muffler. Here's another post where someone had similar questions.

Do I need to get it welded to the cat or does that have a clamp too.

It's got the flange and the plate to attach it to the cat.

How high will I need to get it in the air? Will 16" jack stands be enough?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Should be. It's hard to say how high exactly, but pretty damn high.

I'm guessing it's best to put the rear on jack stands and not ramps.

Correct. You need to let the rear drop as far as possible. You may just be able to remove the lower bolt on the rear shocks to get the rear to drop enough. I couldn't. I had to also remove the brace for the panhard rod.

Oh... I forgot...... The SOTP meter didn't feel much diff. but my car has 180K miles on it. I don't think a 200HP shot of NOS would give it a lot of help. If you click on the pic in my sig, the first page will tell you a little about what it actually did do.

So did you get p/n 17495 or p/n 17493? I couldn't find that in those links. I know that 17493 is what is recommended for our cars, but that 17495 is the 3 .in system.

I went to Autozone and discussed with the guy about the Maremount catalytic converters and I think I found the one that you might have gotten. I forgot to have him print up the p/n though. By the way, in your earlier reply about the catalytic converter you used the term "IIRC "? What does that mean?

Sorry if this is such a hassle, but you have the exact same setup that I'm looking at, and I want to make sure that all my **** is good to go, before I order anything.

I got the 17493.

I don't know what's involved with getting the 3" kit.

You'll have to call Jeg's about that.

Well, if you can find that part number for the catalytic converter that would be cool, but don't sweat it. I'm sure I'll figure it out.

I had that cat-back. It was nice, but still too quiet. When I had an exhaust leak at the y-pipe it sounded good.
