DONT USE AFR Angle Plugs with SLP headers 1.75"! Engine on stand..disaster.
Okay, I have to vent! I have an Fastchip Dyno appointment set for Monday (Aug 19) which was a 3-6 month wait to obtain. I've been forced by unmentioned parts manufacturs to wait for backorderd items, and now I'm in the final hour. I am but moments from firing up the motor on the stand for the initial break in before the dyno run when it goes in the car. I'm running it on a carb for break-in and all that is set up. Starter, intake, wiring, fans are go. I bolt up freshly coated SLP 1.75" headers for a picture and WHAM~! #@$% The plugs lay on the headers with no clearance whatsoever on number 7 &8. I know it's been said a hundred times in hindsight, but once again I'm going to put it in the archives. AFR 195cc angle plug heads do not fit these headers!!! Tomorrow I'm calling Ed Wright in tears of pain and asking him to schedule me up for a new appointment in December. It just seems there is always a set back and it always comes at the most inopportune times. Anyone feel like overnighting me some longtubes and a y-pipe? (Dead serious...if you have any you want to part with) Between Engineering school this coming semester and part time work, there will be no time to finish what was supposed to be a big summer project. A project that I've been planning for over three years now, and once again will be pushed back another. Ode to the gremlins and midgets.
PS- These SLPs and y pipe I must sell if you know of anyone interested.

The problem is that you have STANDARD angle plugs. The headers are made to work with both straight plugs AND L98 Angle plugs. There is no problem when running L98 Angle plugs. This subject has come up numerous times before. I ran the SLPs on my AFR190s with L98 Angle and plug access was awesome. A buddy runs the SLPs on standard angle plug heads and it was a disaster in the same locations you mentioned. He had to create a custom spark plug.

Tim, thanks for the clarification. Can you tell me what he ended up doing and how he did it? Changing heads is not an option now since they have been modified. I'm either going to change headers or somehow make this work. Thanks

Hey if you hurry can you sell those headers to someone then order some to fit? If you have the money you can go with the expensive overnight delivery. As long as you order before 6 the order should be processed. Or just slap something cheap from the parts store on there. You know those 100 dollar headers from the parts store. Other then that December is a long way away.

Stockroc,
How did the hooker super comps work out for you? I'm thinking of going that route for certain if I hear good things about them. As I recall, they are 1.75", correct? Do you have a picture of your exhaust routing? How is ground clearance?
Yes, hurry someone buy them (ypipe included) for $450? Some just make me an offer...They were $499 new + $180 to coat!!! They look brand new by the way as you can see. I have some accel shorty header plugs on order, but I dont think they'll solve the problem. Sounds silly, but is there any way to shorten plugs?
I can order the hookers right now and overnight them, but I could not get a coated set that soon summit says. They need 10 days to special order a coated set. I really want this setup to be done right, so there's no way I would skimp on the coating. These headers are also VERY hard to install so pulling them out again to coat is out of the question. I also want to make sure the car is how it will actually be when I put it on the dyno...no temporary cheap headers because a change to supercomps would alter the car's state of tune. Thanks for the words of encouragement ya'll. I think I'm just sh out of luck. I sent Fastchip an email apologising for breaking the appointment. I hope they wont be angry and will let me reschedule. When a big dog devotes an entire half day appointment for your car, you better show up. If there were anything else I could do, believe me I would. I want to get this thing running more than anything right now.

If "worldofool" doesn't take them for $450.00 I will. You can E-mail me at: BCarver@SPB.SWFPAC.Navy.mil or brandoncarver@hotmail.com or b91z28@hotmail.com. I hope everything works out for you, that sounds like one mean engine you are building. Good luck.
Thanks, Brandon

I received an offer of $550 + shipping for the setup. Beat that and they're yours. I'm holding them until the 26th for this fellow. I am taking names in the mean time in case the money doesnt arrive before that date. All interested parties please make an offer over $450 and email me your name, address, and telephone number and I will contact you in the order that I receive the offers. Thanks for your interest... These are a very popular item!

Sorry forgot all aobout this one.
I love the hooker super comps. However the ground clearence is an issue. I allready had to have one of the tubes fixed. A friend of mine also has them on a 92z and his are pretty banged up too. Stay away from potholes, and go extremely slow over speed bumps and you should be ok. If your car is lowred I would not recommend them. They fit great, and plug access is good. You can have a y pipe fabbed up or you can buy the one from mufflix.

Ok, long shot here...
Most dyno shops at least have some kind of spare parts type thing... where they keep an intake manifold, distributor, headers... stuff like that laying around for customers to try out...
Ask if he's got something similar you can borrow for the day...
Or start calling friends...

Thanks for offering the advise! Actually I had to cancel the appointment already so it's crying over spilled milk. The new dyno appointment is scheduled for October 21st at fastchip! I just ordered the longtubes on Monday just to make certain that the supercomps will fit with my heads before I send away the slp's. What really sucks is necking down the 4" mufflex ypipe to my 3inch slp catback. The reducer piece cost $25 and the mufflex tech said that necking it down was really going to hurt my performance. I guess it's either do the catback or do a turndown at the ypipe (highly illegal and cop magnetic). I'll buy that 4" catback setup when I have an extra $600 hanging around.
