Smog pump
Don't know where else to post this. 1989 RS Smog pump bearing going out. Making a strange chatter. Took the pump apart and cleaned and greased. It helped but will not last much longer. Haven't I seen a diagram here that I can re-route the belt to by-pass the pump. If not does any one know the GM part number.

First thought, if you need it, go to a junk yard, second go to a Auto zone kinda place. Do you have A/C? Take a messurement and get that size belt. Also do a SEARCH (top right). That will be your best friend.

I tried taking mine off yesterday. You know, my belt routing is already like the ones in the pictures on the tech article.
I got the pulley off, and dang it wouldn't you know it the pump was held in with Torx headed bolts. So I put it back together and got the bits for my socket set... gonna try again some morning this week. The stupid pulley kept turning as I tried to break the bolts loose, ended up having to put a wrench end to end with another wrench braced against something to hold the pulley still by one bolt while loosening the others with a rachet. Oh well, it worked.
Hey Vic, you said it was a 96.5 or so inch long belt right? Cause it turns out that one I got from Mike is a 96.7 I think, so that should be about perfect right?

Thanks
Thanks Vic. I knew I had seen that tech. Pump is coming off today. I needed to replace the belt anyway.
HrDROCK I know what you mean about the Torx bolts. I think the guy that came up with that lame design probably gets a kickback from the tool company's.

mine is 96.7, the tech article calls for 96.8, but the auto guy told me anything within and inch is ok. I'd go 96.5 to 97 just to be safe
ya those torx are tricky, I had to use a 3/8 impact to get the top one out. the bottom one came out easy.
dave: the trick to getting pulleys off is to loosen the bolts before you take the belt off, if the belt is still in good shape it will hold the pulley from spinning
