i got a 89 iroc. 305 tpi. i currently have a hedmen headers, accel 8.8mm wires, hypertech chip (stage 2), open box, free mods, accel coils, flowmaster exhaust, tornado, air fowl with stock throttle body, b&m shifter, monster tach, posi, stock gears, modified mass air flow sensor. i was running 15's in hawaii. i was told that with these mods it suppose to be quicker. so what do you guys think with these mods? should i be in the 14's since we adjusted my cars timing. it was on 28 degrease. it was real off. so we adjusted it to 7 degrease. should my time be better now?

Is that 28 degrees base timing? If so that would cause some power loss. Base timing should be about what you set it at, on a stock motor. More modified motors may need more base timing though...

timing... go to 10*.. thats about as far as that hypercrap is taking you... cant go much farther then that with out the ecu correcting you and setting it back. I need to find someone with an advanced timing light so i can start playing around.

on the Z28, i've got slp 1 3/4 headers, a 3" bend to a cutout, to a flowmaster single in single out . american thunder or force 2 i think.. probalby the force two. that's got a vortec headed 355
the formula.. stock manifolds, stock stuff till you get to the same 3" force 2 catback as the Z28 that's a 305 tpi 5spd

i have a 91 rs 305 tbi and i was thinking of getting slp headers right into side pipes for jc whitney. take out the size g/fx and put them there. i was just wondering if anyone has done that

Y pipe into a 3" cat and 3" pipe all the way out (no muffler).
Still working on what I want to do for the tip(s).
I used to have the 2.5" pipe w/out the cat and a crossflow
flowmaster, but my motor didn't like the restrictiveness of the
flowmaster. The car run's 100 times better now running just
the cat and no muffler... not to mention it sounds great!

Mike...just to let you know, it wasnt the Flowmaster that was restrictive on your car, it was the kinked up stock 2 1/4" pipe you were running. Of course its gonna run better with 3" all the way out. By the way...you gotta hear your old muffler on my 84. Sounds great. Might have woke it up a little bit too. See ya at the Pavs.

2 1/2" piping throughout the entire set up. Besides, running
the 3" cat with the new piping sounds a lot better than that
cross flowmaster. *L* Too bad there's no room for a 40 series.
I'm glad you like my old muffler... I might be getting a dynomax
bullet put on...or I'm going to finish off the tip(s).

2 1/4, 2 1/2...who cares. Was still choking it. Hell, the stock exhaust on my 84 is choking it. And my L69 exhaust is a lot better than your old LG4 exhaust. What I wouldnt give to have my old Edelbrock headers and SLP catback back in my possesion. Im glad youre happy with your new exhaust, but if I were you, id be putting a muffler on that thing. BTW, you sure youre gonna use those headers? Ill be more than happy to take them off your hands. Gimme a call. Later man.

1987 carb. 350 cu. in. Firebird. Hedman shorty headers(pn 68470), Hedman Y-pipe(Pn 17470) with 3" end replacing 2.5" end and Flowmaster catback system for single 3" cat (pn17151) without a cat. Flows great , sounds good, fits well.

I have headmen longtube headers with a flat colecter and 3" duels and mufflers and pipe i made at work. it sounds great and i only lost a 10nth in the 1/8 at the strip

Lost a tenth compared to what exhaust? What do you run? What engine and tranny combo do you have. If that is compared to stock exhaust I would say you need to tune it if it is carbed. Maybe the exhaust is just to big for your motor. Dual 2.5 is about equal to 3.5" which is what I have. A cross pipe such as an h or x might help out with loss of torque if that is what has caused you to slow down. Also, do you have any pics of the ground clearance. That is basically how mine is run except I have the hooker long tubes and used s pipes to move it into the driveshaft tunnel since the hookers seem to sit a little wider than the hedmads. I used bullets also. My ground clearance is really pretty good and I dont really scrape on anything. I was kind of wondering how yours does since you have the larger pipe and normal sized mufflers.

In my earlier thred i had stock exhaust.
As of today i have.
Hooker headers, hi-flow cat, 2.5" mandrel pipes, flowmaster 80 series. and sum sparkly exhaust tips too.

I had my car tuned for open headers,i just put them on to see what it would run. i could of played with the timing a little,but i didnt. it runs 7.30s at about 95mph in the 1/8, best 60' was 1.61. i have 2" drop spindles and the colecters just barly skrapes on big dips, but large speed bumps would be a diferent story. my motor is a 355 withe brownsfield raised runner aluminum beads solid roller cam roller rockers 12.1 forged pistons brodix intake berry grant 750 holley. fairbanks turbo 350 3500 stall 9" curry with 4.86 gears.

OK, thats cool. Sounds like it worked out pretty good then. I didnt know what exhaust you were running to start with(open headers). What kind of mufflers are those?

I was running open headers. the mufflers,I designed and built them at work. i have made a couple different designs.i have some strait through ones i made that im going to polish up and use instead of the ones you see in the picture.

Swain coated long tubes into 3" head pipes and then into a single 3.5" intermediate pipe running into a Dynomax welded ultraflow muffler. Still undecided in the tailpipe, hidden or slash cut.

Hooker 2055's with the air tubes cut off and the flange modified, and jet hot coated, mac offroad pipe, flowtech 3 inch cutout welded into the offroad pipe also jet hot coated, and flowmaster 3 inch dual exit catback.

Have revised exhaust on 1987 Firebird since 9/9/03 post. Still have Headman shorty headers (pn 68470) and Headman Y-pipe (pn 17470),now with 3.5" tail pipe. The rest of the exhaust system is 3.5" Mufflex with Flowmaster muffler. A little louder but not bad. More horsepower, but not quite as good fitment.

Shortie Headers with dual 2 1/2 inch pipes run into a Mufflex 4 inch system out the back with 1 single tailpipe.
I've got more ground clearence than the car had stock. Sound file in the sig.
