Random Tech vs. Car sound Cats which is better?

Ok, I need to get to the bottom of this. I went to the exhaust shop to replace my cat and he stars boasting this Car sound cat. I tell him I have a random tech cat in the car right now and he starts talking tons of **** on random. The have a huge block in them the have poor welds, blah blah blah. He pulls out a car sound cat and it has what appear to be 2 smaller blocks and "ridges" that hold the blocks in place. He says they are the best cat around and would out flow a random any day of the week. Now all I hear around hear is if you can afford one get a random cat. Now I want to hear your side. Please give me experiances good/bad with both. I like the random cats I have had a good expierance with them so far but if he knows something I don't I would like to know. Thanks.

Jim

I had the same thing happen to me at the local muffler shop. When the guy saw my Random Tech Cat he asked me how much I paid and when I told him $229 he laughed and said it was the same generic kind he sells for $75. I don't think his generic cats are made of Stainless Steel and if people say another cat flows better I just say prove it. All I know is my car performs a lot better with the Random Tech Cat than with the factory Cat.

I have proven it to myself. I dynoed better with the carsound cat than with the Random Tech. It was only 5HP but for the difference in price, I do not recommend wasting money on the Random Tech Cat. The RT Catback is awesome though. I do recommend their Catback but not the cat. The Carsound Cat was only $60.

I talked to a few places now that say that random cats are nothing but junk. I don't understand why almost every post I have read says that these are the cats to get. I guess I'm going with a car sound. Thanks guys

Car Sound is a very good company and has been around for a few years. In fact, several flow test have shown their cats outflow everyone elses. I cant see spending $229 for a catalytic converter, especially for those of us who need two of them. Car Sound is the much better deal, and are at least as good a cat as RT, and more than likely better.

Car Sound cats are trash. Most of you won't remember, but there was a guy who frequented this site named Tom Keliher, he had a badass Formula 350. His stock cats died, so he went with a pair of car sound cats. The bricks failed in the cats, and they broke up, clogging his exhaust. He took them back to the shop and exchanged them for a pair of Catco cats and has been happy ever since. Random Tech is good but vastly overpriced, IMO. Catco makes the best cat converters for our cars if you are on a budget, in my opinion.

Car Sound Cats

Tom never mentioned what he fixed to cure the problem, but it damn sure wasn't the Car Sound Cats fault. There are a ton of things that will kill a cat, it is most unfair to say it's the cats fault. (trying to be nice here)
