Re: Overhaulin' 86 camaro in the UK???

Is that a 20 profile tyre? Wouldn't like to hit a pot hole with those on. Up here in Scotland they'd be like 50 pences in no time.

The car looks good. I hope to see it sometime. Would you care to share a, very rough, ball park figure of the cost of your project? In fact, I think you should open a new thread with photos covering the whole build once you have all the wheels on...assuming that it is then finished.

Hi Robert.
It's good to be back on TGO after a long time. Never really left, but lurking

Rears are 245/35 20s. Potholes are abundant around Derbyshire so I'll be careful!
The build is fully documented from the start (1994 purchase), with over 2000 photos and hours of video. It has it's own website which I have neglected, but if anyone cares/dares to look at (pop ups I'm afraid!) it is http://www.andyfanshawe.freewebspace.com. It's not bad, but needs rehosting and getting it's old .com domain name back. Price to pay for a really, really busy life.
I can post a thread up if that is what is wanted.

Speaking of price? You want a ball park figure eh? I daren't add up all the receipts, but the highlights are ;
Paint job - DIY media blasting, welding, epoxy primer, 2K primer and months of flatting. Then top coats put on by pro painter (wouldn't let me do it-stubborn sod). About £7000 but that includes the purchase of 2 compressors, hard lines, breathing equipment etc to do all the DIY stuff.
Air suspension: About £2000
Wheels and tyres: £1100

Plus loads of other bits and pieces (chrome plating, engine rebuilds, trans rebuild, new braking system with silicone brake fluid-£25 a litre!, .......)

Ball park figure would be about £20 000 including price of car (£2500 back in 1994).

Sorry, just fainted there.

Future plans include a digital dash and a probable divorce, especialy when my 92 Astro is undergoing a serious DIY air suspension lay frame install at the mo!! http://www.amvo.org/forum/viewtopic....fa6faf&start=0 if anyone has the time to read it-it is loooooooooooooooooooooong.

Andy.

PS Nope, I'm not rich. Just works every hour that God sends. Be sending my kids out to work in the next 10 years ish

Wow, That is some attention to detail my friend! Haven't posted here in ages, but this has given me some much needed inspiration. Haven't done much to mine lately as I turned to the darkside and got a Supra as well! Hope to see more of this project.

Glad thats it's given you your enthusiasm back.
Good luck with your project. Interestingly, my next project may be a japanese drift car!! I'll join you on the dark side then.

Re: Overhaulin' 86 camaro in the UK???

I've moved the '82 car on, but the 92 is still goin strong. Made some progress with it. Got a set of forged blower pistons for £160!!! Hopefully start the engine build soon. Still need a lot of money throwing at the turbo project. The Porsche brakes are nearly done. Brackets, machining all done. Just need a few hours and a dry day to test fit things. I'm not the quickest at projects these days, too many other things to do?! I have been spending a bit of what spare time I have with the Supra! What a tool. I hate to say it, but for a performance bargain, very hard to beat. I suspect you could throw a ton of money at a Camaro and it would never handle like the Supra. 326hp very usable as standard with legendary Toyota reliability. Very easy to get 400hp with a BPU (basic power upgrade) at around £500 tops. But the Camaro is my right arm, I've got to see it through eh. I've also seen a GM LS376 480hp crate motor for $6500 mmm. One of those for the Camaro, or the Supra??? A Lexus 4.0 V8 for the Supra?? Christ someone tell me what to do!

Ps. Ill start a new thread for the brake upgrade if anyone wants to look

Re: Overhaulin' 86 camaro in the UK???

Okay.......................After 10 years and a lot of money and blood sweat and tears, we are ALMOST complete. 1 or 2 minor things to complete, but we are there. The MOT looms next week at some point.
Do you want to see some final pics before it hits the show circuits?

See you at some shows hopefully! Does this mean I have to actually drive this thing now? After 10 years? :hat: And get it mucky? NO...............

Andy.

Amazing car - it repesents a spectacular amount of work, I did have to laugh at 'digital dash' and 'probable divorce', though - not really funny, but I think that most of us car guys have been right up against that at one point or another. Anyway, that is quite a car!

Thanks ZZ42.
I must admit, I didn't think it would turn out like it did. My 11 year old son is totally in love with it, and even asked me how I planned it all to look like that
You can plan so much, then finances (amongst other things) produce some constraints (eg wheels), but fortune played a role there.

There are more changes on the way, but most will be inside or in the engine bay.

The photo above at Newark was taken by a professional and I found it by chance on the newark americana 2009 web site http://www.americana-international.c...cars/index.htm

I emailed him and he sent me the 10.2 meg hi res version.

Thanks again for your comments.
Hope to meet up one day. How long have I been saying that.

Andy.
