Hood dampers part number

Hi

I tried posting this in another area, until I noticed the European boards!

I'm looking for the GM part number for the dampers which hold the hood up. I find that the UK GM network are not interested if the cars are not designed for the European market and I am finding it hard to get the required information. The vehicle they are to fit is a 1989 Pontiac Firebird.

Your help is much appreciated.

Mark

Lon is a great guy to deal with and will arrange shipping quotes etc very promptly for you.

Welcome to the boards by the way.

No problem at all Mark.

If I were you I'd consider ordering a set of Alston SFC's from Lon at TDS and basically getting him to put the hood struts in the same packaging.

SFC's?

I did contact Lon with a view to having them mailed to me as I am going to Florida next week. When I asked about shipping, I was told that I would have to use the site for information. Fair enough, but there is no shipping information in the link and I didn't want to create an account just to check prices.

Maybe i'll have a wander around while i'm out there.

Cheers

Just don't try and bring them back in hand luggage! Think the airport staff would have a problem with pressurised gas cylinders. Not even sure if they are happy with that sort of thing in the hold?

Si.

ps. The parts I got from Lon for the rear were NAPA parts. don't have the number for the front though.

Just put them in the hold, I do it all the time when I bring parts back form the US.

Get the hood dampers from Napa (that's what Lon is selling) as they have life time warranty on them. Also make sure you get the correct ones as some Camaro's came with a glassfiber hood...

I think they are like $20 or so each, bought a spare set earlier this year just in case. I know the GM ones are pretty crap as I had to replace them every second year on my old 84

I'm afraid I'm still using this specimen for the time being as I haven't fitted the new struts yet(or any of the new stuff for a while). If anyone fancies assembling my car for me,please feel free!

Looks like i'm actually going to get them from John Woolfe Racing now. They are a bit more expensive than in the US (about £10 for the pair), but I don't need to worry about packing them in the hold of paying $35 air mail to get them here.

Cheers
