Real vortec 5.7 swap

Real vortec 5.7 swap
Has anyone ever swapped a vortec 5.7 with full vortec injection etc. Only asking because the vortec 5.7 in the c1500 trucks seem to be pretty reliable and have pretty good torque.

This I what I put together. Howell vortec harness and everything stock from cam to heads. It runs good. Not a high horsepower machine but a daily driver.

I also did this for a bit in a previous car, but I used the intake "hat/Top" off of a van and hooked it into my TPI air cleaner. The Van intake clocks straight towards the radiator instead of to the side like the truck/suv ones do.

Yeah I couldn't get either the truck air "hat" or the one of the express vans to fit under the stock hood so I took an ss style hood I had on another camaro and it gave me the extra space. I need to take care of the egr system though. Either delete it from the pcm or weld a pipe from header to connect to the intake.

Re: Real vortec 5.7 swap
Yes the intake hat was a issue for me I ended up fabing up some brackets and modifying the hat from a v6 to work. Itsucked but did what it needed for the time being. Its a strong running setup!. I did this swap as my first ever and didnt care at the time to go full blown swap to LS as I didnt know a whole lot but I am glad I did as it taught me and i went on to build ls motors after completing. I am going to run this mild build for a while as I build my ls1 but excited to see how it runs with mild cam, ls6 springs and tpi baseplate. Hoping to have running by end of month.

Re: Real vortec 5.7 swap
Hey jharrison5, would I be able to get a few pictures of your setup please? I am at the point of putting my tpi on baseplate and Ive never owned a tpi before this, so Im still figuring out routing for the cooling system. If you can send me a few photos showing how you are routing your hoses and what ports you are using on the baseplate it would really be helpful for me. Thanks. Are you running vortec or 3rdgen waterpump? Did you do TB coolant bypass?

Re: Real vortec 5.7 swap
Everything I'm running, cooling lines etc are exactly how you would run a 5.7 vortec from the trucks. Same truck pump too with the hoses coming out of the water pump. One of the lines going to the front intake port and the other going to the heater core. I have my heater core bypasses though seen in the pic.

Yeah I'll snap some when I get home from work. I am running a 3rd gen water pump for a 88+ 5.7 since I went with a serpentine setup and I am not using the TB coolant ports.

Re: Real vortec 5.7 swap
Ok, so here's what I have going on. Now I don't know if this bypass is going to work yet, but I think it will. I have the bypass port in the water pump plugged, so coolant will come in and go to the heater bypass valve that will shut via vacuum from the HVAC controls.
