TPI Swap to 64 Chevelle, need help!
I signed up for this site based on comments that I read on the web. Everyone says you guys know the most about TPI swaps. I could use the help. I bought this car mid way through the build and while I have found most things done correctly, I am now turning my attention to the engine.
It is a 1990 Corvette 5.7 TPI. The wiring harness is in and wired to an ECM. It is an aftermarket wiring harness. I don't know of issues with the wiring......yet.
My questions start with heater hoses. My water pump does not have water heater hose outlets. I see where one hose can be attached to the side of the plenum, and where the outlet comes out in front and an outlet below there which I think an elbow hose connects one to another.
I have no other outlets to hook heater hoses to.
How have you routed the return hose?
Any suggestions as to a throttle cable? The 64 Chevelle has the throttle arm off of the firewall, and the throttle bracket is on the plenum.
I have NO idea on how or if the ECM was set up. What suggestions do you have for set up prior to firing the engine?
Running a Turbo 400 transmission. Where can I pick up vacuum to run to modulator valve?
Any help or any suggestions on things mentioned or not would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bill

Lokar makes cables for your swap. You will need another water pump early thirdgen 85 43099 gates might have the port it's a standard rotation long pump .You might be faced with vats issues depending on if the memcal was reprogrammed or if you have a hz modulator. Vacuum ports are on the plenum rh side next to the fp regulator port. If you are running a vette serpentine setup you need a reverse rotation water pump that's short. You can find one on eBay perhaps. Or gates 42094P for short standard rotation. You can see assortment of pumps at RockAuto.com. It might be a challenge to find a short pump reverse rotation with a port.

Re: TPI Swap to 64 Chevelle, need help!
Thanks for the quick reply. I will do research on your information and may follow up if I still have questions. I am running the serpentine belt system so that could be my downfall. Would there be an option to tee the bottom radiator hose for my second heater hose?
It's my intention to run as few items such as the charcoal canister etc....my question is can I get around them or will the ECM force me to do so?
Many thanks for your help!

On TPI cars, the other heater line goes to the radiator. Not like it matters much, it can be run to the waterpump instead. At least with the F-body serpentine system you can hardly find a new waterpump without the coolant port, they all just come with the port pipe plugged.

You can have the memcal ( computer chip) reprogrammed to illuminate the emissions egr, air pump and ccp. It might be a good idea to leave the ccp in the programming though so the ecm can go into different block learn modes although the ccp would be physically removed. No codes would be thrown. If you need programming done feel free to send me a message.

Re: TPI Swap to 64 Chevelle, need help!
Heater hose problem solved! Thanks to replies, I now have a water pump with an outlet for my 2nd heater hose. Again, THANKS!
Also, Thanks for the advise on the ECM set up. As soon as I can, I will take a look and see how it is set up currently and will for sure get back for more advise.
Thanks to everyone for their help!

A 2k ppm might do the trick as well since you don’t have tcc lockup.

Re: TPI Swap to 64 Chevelle, need help!
I am going to order it tomorrow, Thanks.
This brings up another question, where do the wires on the speed sensor hook up to the ecm? Right now the only wires not connected on the ecm is the brown check engine light and the grey fuel pump wire that is off of a relay.
Also, I assume that the grey fuel pump wire from the ecm relay is to go to the positive side of the fuel pump and I should ignore the power wire for the fuel pump that comes from the fuse box.
I really appreciate your help! It would take me hours to research these things. Always nice to have someone who has the knowledge!

Here’s a fuel pump schematic, you should be able to look at the relay pin to figure out where the grey wire goes. Most grey wires on the relay goes to the pump for ecm control (prime). The wiring colors and ecm pinout maybe different than this schematic.
