t56 clearance issues
Can't seem to find my answer. Been searching through a lot of the ls1 6 speed swap threads and no one seems to be having this issue or not making a big deal about it. I installed my ls1 and bolted up the t56 trans and found that the trans is sitting a little further back than it should. The shifter doesn't clear the hole like it did with the t5. Is everyone cutting a piece of the metal to get it to seat correctly? And obviously can't bolt up the trans cross member. Any help and pics would be appreciated.

Yup, comes out about an inch or so too far rearwards; gotta elongate the shifter hole rearwards a bit.
And of course, the crossmember is in a completely different place, so, yeah... gotta get some other one. No stock one that I know of will work.

Cool. All I needed to know. And yeah I have the Hawks crossmember, just couldn't get it lined up.

The Hooker 3rd-gem LS swap engine brackets and transmission crossmember address that issue by moving the engine transmission mating plane slightly forward just as GM did when they equipped the 4th-gem F-body cars with LS engines.
