1983 camaro i-rok clone
I have the chance to buy a 83 camaro that is a irok clone. the only thing that bothers me about it is that the guy told me the previous owner swapped out the v 6 for a 305 v8 but didn't change the resistor wire. The owner now changed the carb and the choke light is on along with the check engine light. he said the engine light is on because its throwing emission codes.
I would like a list of things to check on the car to make sure i can get it inspected and it will run good since they did the swap. i eventually want to drop a 350 in it. i already read the sticky.

Well, welcome to third gen. It's usually referred to as an IROC-Z.

Anytime. Generally, you want to check all of the fluids, get a look underneath the car and check for rot, and learn how to check codes on the 83. Usually it involves a paper clip, and watching flashing lights for the number of code in the system, then translating that number into what the code stands for.

Re: 1983 camaro i-rok clone
I would first check to see if the carb is a computer controlled carb. Besides choke does it have any other wires running to it or connectors for wires that are not ran? Is the distributor vacuum advance or entirely computer controlled advance. If the carb only has choke wire ran and no other connectors on it then it can not be hooked up to computer anyways.
Chances are the PO only dropped the motor in w/ a non CC carb and vac adv and did not hook the computer control up. This could be sending a code because of just this.
Do a search to see if you can find the ECM #S for the 83 V6 or just pull your ECM and copy the numbers down and search or ask here.
