Re: 355 build/install
the tbi is really going to hurt your performance, since you are using the tbi the numbers i said before are very realistic.
and once you know your gasket thickness and deck clearance you can use that compression calculator in the link for your pistons

Re: 355 build/install
All 87-95 truck and car TBI v8 engines got swirl port heads. Same with the Sy/Ty turbo v6 (LB4 heads). These heads are TERRIBLE for flow, the intake port size is huge at 185cc but they flow less than any other production chevy head! The only good thing about these heads is that the combustion chamber isn't AS pathetic. I can think of at least 4 other heads that have worse chambers but that doesn't make up for the fact that your cylinders are barely filling with air and fuel!
This post should be a sticky where people ONLY post information regarding these heads. No posts about "they aren't that bad" because face it, they are.
The LB4 heads were tested to flow only 165/119 (in/ex) @ .500 lift. To put that into perspective I've attached a graph showing you a couple other heads.
Graph has been updated to show that with porting the heads will flow something more respectable. The intake still falls way short but the exhaust is where the sbc has always needed work. Dyno Don has done his homework and made these heads work rather well. He polished the exhaust port and touched up the intake, look at the flow and his 35+hp gain. Good job Don.

Also, be ready to run race gas with dome top pistons and 64cc heads. Pump gas isnt gonna cut it with that kind of compression level and that tiny cam.

Re: 355 build/install
took the car on its maiden voyage today, the fan keeps the car where i want it at temp wise. the 750 is way too big, i put the pedal to the floor and the wideband hits full rich and the car bogs and then takes off. so i switched it out for a holley 600 laying around. it seemed to run a lot better with that carb. this time dad was driving the car, he put the pedal to the floor, and it stuck, turned the car off while going 60 or so, the wheel locked and headed right for the woods, turned the car back on, it took off again and we finally got it stopped. im sooo glad we did not crash the car lol
so its time for a new carb, it sticks for no reason, even with doing it by hand. that is something i wont risk it again. this time it will be a holley 650 dp.

Re: 355 build/install
what rearend are you running?? is it 10 bolt, 12 bolt? 9 inch? I am in the mid stages of building my 355/700r4 combo. my 700r4 is stock though. also 10 bolt open diff for now. I'm quite nervous of my rearend though. 3.23 gears in it. I plan on babying the car this summer and start horsing around with it towards fall for a stress test. if it lasts I will probably leave it as it is, but still thinking of upgrading rearend with 3.73's and some stuff to strengthen the rear end up.

if you plan to run 26 inch tires 3.73 or if you run 28 inch tires 4.10s, my personal opinion but i have had great success with the 4.10s and 28s.

Re: 355 build/install
your tire is a 26 inch tire, converts to 26.5, so i would go with the 3.73s
thanks guys, i had a lot of hard work and many hours in it.
the carb was not worth trying to figure out, all it would take is it to stick again and it could be my car and or my life

Re: 355 build/install
well its set in stone now, i ordered a walbro 255 with install kit and a turbo xs bov.
i think that a 38 mm will be enough to hold the pressure.
im thinking either a s475 or mp t76 q trim.
also ordered my tanny cooler, umi crossmember with torque arm relocation and a poly bushing.
will a 38mm gate hold the s475? if so ill go that route as i can get an emusa for 50 bucks new and back when i was into dsms the community swore by them

Re: 355 build/install
i managed to get the 350 in, i just used a 3k stall because i want to drive it a LOT on the street. i used the bmr torque arm relocattion crossmember. it is a very nice piece and fitment is right on. the way it is designed you dont need an adjustable torque arm, it has literally like 10 different locations to mount it up and down. i put the torque arm in the middle and i will adjust from there.
will also be throwing the founders performance lca's and lcarb's on soon also.
i will be getting the powerjection system very soon, was going to be this week but... you know the usual bills. so 3 weeks from now it will be ordered.
ill keep the car n/a this year and turbo it next year, this way i can gather all the parts.
ill post pics up after its all done.
i will probably do a write up for the 350 swap so people can use it for future reference.
anyone looking to do the swap- stock driveshaft will work, it needs to be lengthened exactly 5 inches and it will be perfect.
