How much $$$ you got to play with?
What do you want out of car?
Is fuel economy a concern?

Re: stroke it? or charge it?

moneys not a concern im building it over winter was already planning on going forged crank pistons and rods and bigger cam
and fuel economy isnt that great of a concern but it would always be nice im not looking for a 9 second car im looking 700hp MAX looking more for street performance quick on high way and start i already have it plan too building suspension too
just looking for ideas to help my thoughts and make up my mind
and looking to stick with small block and leary about the 400 sbc and there issues

oh and my wiring is all butched so i was just going to get a nice painless ign for a 91 bird so ican get rid of some of the useless stuff and that way i will have eprom can anyone else tell me what else i need to get to tune my car?

Re: stroke it? or charge it?

700hp 350 or 383 is gonna cost some good money. I think dart makes a 427 SBC 600hp, would be a good base and can upgrade in the future.

If you wanted to stick with the 350 block and want 700hp, then i would say stroke it and charge it, stroke difference in cost is not all that much, why not have best of both worlds?

Re: stroke it? or charge it?

procharged 350 is gonna cost alot more than the 383 all motor setup, however the procharged setup will make your 700 hp with enough boost while the 383 is gonna be limited to under 600 hp in a n/a street build unless you really get crazy with it. 500-550 hp is the normal expected range out of a GOOD 383.

And 700 hp is about 9 second car if setup right.

If money is no problem and you need a new block anyway, get a 400" dart SHP block and build from there. Hit up Dr J's Performance for his Street Bruiser package.
http://www.j-performance.com/index.p...ask=view&id=37

640hp fairly easily out of their custom cam/ intake/heads combinations. Airwolf 220 heads.

Or go Chad Speier Racing heads with his v2.50 heads. 227cc and can also do 600hp on motor +.

Then just spray to 700 with a tiny shot.

Or as others suggested, an LSx motor wouldnt be a bad choice. A good built 408" motor based on an iron block 6.0 should do 600hp without a problem. 700 on motor would be a tough number to hit but a 427 using great ported LS7 heads can do it with a decent cam. Thats a more expensive route to take.
BUT 600hp is ALOT of power in a thirdgen. Thats a 10 second car. How much more do you reallly need or want?

Re: stroke it? or charge it?

thas why i said a maximum of 700 im just aim for above the 500 range
street performance where its fast as hell on street high way or strip
and the 400sbc can crack and stress easy i would be safer with a 350
and also would rather be na but at the same time boost woul be nice
not lookng for a crate motor or anthin if i were to do that i would just buy a ls9 but like you were saying with a stroker i will be liited on p but ill have alot of torque and acc. that basically a procharger will give you but i dont think a stroker would put up as well as a procharger on the highway from a 50 pull
i plan on keeping my tpi and getting the first intake everything is going to be pretty much aftermarket just cant decide what set up to do
not looking for a 9 sec car low 10 to high 11 would be nice lol

Re: stroke it? or charge it?

You could buy it all with this company that has been doing this for yrs and a 3 yr or mileage deal.

Re: stroke it? or charge it?

If you are going to build a forged bottom end anyways, no reason to buy a forged 350 crank over a 383 crank.

Re: stroke it? or charge it?

TPI or the First i doubt will handle the power you want to have. Just my opinion.

Talking LS1 procharged is apples and oranges with the LS9. Your talking over 10k difference between the 2 motors plus change. 20k for that bad boy

Re: stroke it? or charge it?
