Re: A solid 350 build plan?

Yup, love craigslist..

Just noticed the heads don't have rocker studs, these should work, right?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Sbc-3...Q5fAccessories

Should I get guideplates?

Re: A solid 350 build plan?

yes get guideplates and better pushrods, no reason not to they are cheap enough, Atilla told me you dont need them if your under 5k rpm but your combo should be able to go right up to 6500 and valvetrain stability is worth the extra little bit of cash... check the specs on the heads, if they are drilled for 3.8 studs then yes those will work

Re: A solid 350 build plan?

I can't find anywhere in the ad where it states 3/8" rocker stud threads. I assume it's 3/8" because thats what the more common size is, but I cant be 100% sure..

What pushrods would you recommend? Length? Dia?

Re: A solid 350 build plan?

send them a message... for pushrods i cant make a suggestion, mine is a 87 up roller cam so i use a diff length then yours, you may have to measure, ask them about that as well

Re: A solid 350 build plan?

They recommend 7.800 (which is stock size) to +.100.

But IDK which to choose, I guess I may have to measure them to know for sure.

Re: A solid 350 build plan?

So here is what I am looking at:

355 Small Block
Aluminum heads: 190cc Runners, 64cc combustion chamber, 2.02/1.6 valves
Howards Camshaft: Dur 296/302, Lift .480/.480, 108 LSA, 2500-6500 Powerband
Edelbrock Performer RPM Intake
Holley 670 Double Pumper carburetor
MSD Streetfire Distributor
Roller-Tipped Rocker Arms: 1.5 Ratio
Hedman Long-tube headers: 1 5/8" primaries, 3" collectors

Sounds good.

What kind of power level am I looking at here?

Re: A solid 350 build plan?

id say 375 chp should be a good guess maybe more or less, i know popular hotrodding made 400chp with those heads a single plane intake and a bigger hydraulic roller cam with a 750carb and an old HEI so your def pretty stout and should be making some neck breakin tq

btw what about the LM7 swap in your sig??

I feel good with that number.

It's in research, lol..

Thats a way more expensive and extensive swap that I am saving for a later date.

Re: A solid 350 build plan?

Placed an order for the heads, and realized I did not change the address on my ebay to my new address, so I sent a message to Skip, and left a message on their phone regarding this issue. Hopefully they will see/hear about this before shipping the heads out.

Anyway, I also stopped by a speed shop and picked up the timing set, oil pump and pickup. Also placed an order for some stuff there as well. Going to go next saturday and hopefully pick up a nice lot of parts!

Re: A solid 350 build plan?

Just placed an order at gearhead performance for:

Howards Camshaft
Edelbrock Lifters
NGK Spark plugs
Roller-tipped Rockers
Timing Gasket Set
Fuel filter
Long-tube Hedman headers
Zinc Plated oil pan
Oil pump pickup retainer

(Its good to keep track of these things lol)

Annnnnnd-
Just got a call from skip white performance about my heads and my address change is verified and I should expect the heads at my house by late this week/early next week.

By saturday I'll hopefully have a bunch of parts that I can gawk at... lol

Re: A solid 350 build plan?

Well, saturday I picked up all those parts except for the oil pump pickup retainer because it didnt come in yet. I insist on the retainer, just for peace of mind.

The heads should've been here friday, but they didnt show up then which is okay, and Fedex doesnt ship mondays, and now its still not here yet. I wonder how late they run? It won't let me see the status on the tracking # anymore either....

Getting closer and closer..

Re: A solid 350 build plan?

Okay, I am officially f-ing irritated.

I called skip white and left a message on ebay with my change of address information WELL BEFORE the heads were sent out. I was supposed to recieve them Saturday, but they didnt show. Now that its wednesday and still no package I called FedEx, and it turns out they gave them the incorrect address anyway. I got a message from ebay AND a call back from White performance saying that they recieved my new address information and all is well. Fedex has tried to drop the package off at the WRONG house three times now. I would be extremely pissed off if someone else got my $630 worth of parts. Now I have to have my mother pick up the heads tomorrow ad the fedex, because they also did not put MY name on the package when they said they were going to, and apparently I cant pick up my own package because my name isn't tied to it.

Hopefully tomorrow I will have them and I can stop worrying about my money being in limbo. I am going to leave a message for Skip to let them know about this issue, and not to say a problem has been corrected when nothing has been done to resolve the issue.

Re: A solid 350 build plan?

Heads got delivered today, and all in all they look pretty good for the money. I have a few concerns about them though, and I will add pics of the areas that have me concerned.

Heres my pile of parts on my bed.. lol:

Name: DSCN2277.jpg
Views: 95
Size: 127.8 KB

Things I noticed about the heads:

Rust on this valve spring:

Scratches/small gouges in the head gasket surface:

And the worst of the scratches:

I think it may be fine because its nowhere near the combustion chamber, but it is on the head gasket mating surface. It is near a coolant channel, fyi.

Yeah my other choice was one from Summit for $270 which I really dont want to pay.. lol

I am okay if it is a rebuilt unit as long as it wont give me any problems and will work properly, ya know?

I just read it says 2200-2500.

Would that be too small? Also I am confused on spline count and whether or not to get lockup/ non luckup?

Decided to go with a TH350.

Would this converter work out? It says 2200-2600, which again may be too small?
